Introduction
F irst off, thank you for purchasing my book EMP Survival: The Ultimate EMP Survival Guide! How to Survive Electromagnetic Pulse. Plan, Protect and Prepare for Grid Down Scenario (SHTF, Prepper). If you've gotten this book, then you've probably realized that being prepared to live off the grid after a SHTF situation makes a lot of sense, with the way the world has been going over the past few years.
Millions of people every year are forced to go off the grid in order to survive. An EMP attack is a real threat to our nation. If our grid was to ever go down, would you and your family be prepared to ride out the disaster, or survive long term in a world where law and order was thrown out the window.
I believe in prepping for the worst. If I never have to use some of my preps, then that's wonderful, but if a time does come where we lose the grid, I know my family and I will be prepared for almost anything that comes our way.
This book will go over what steps you need to take in order to be prepared, along with preps you need to have stockpiled, and how to live successfully off the grid long term. This won't be easy. Living off the grid is hard work and requires planning and discipline. That's why being prepared in advance is so vital to your long term success and survival.
There's a lot to go over. Let's get started.
C hapter One: An Introduction to EMP Blasts
In this chapter, you will learn:
What Is An EMP Blast?
What Can Cause An EMP Blast to Occur?
How Will This Affect Your Electronics?
What Is An EMP Blast?
A n EMP blast is an intense burst of some electromagnetic energy that is caused by a rapid and abrupt acceleration of the charged particles. This can lead to all kinds of issues with anything electronic and can also at times lead to physical damage to our power lines, vehicles, and buildings.
What Can Cause An EMP Blast to Occur?
T here are three main things we know of that can cause an EMP blast. Those three things are a nuclear explosion (or some type of EMP weapon), a lightning strike, and a solar storm.
EMP attacks caused by a weapon or nuclear detonation care caused by a massive release of charged particles into our ionosphere. This is a shell of particles and electrons that surround our planet. It's found from 30 miles to over 500 miles above us. When you get these particles released, a big downward surge in these particles will occur that creates an enormous electrical current. The resulting effect has the potential to short all types of electrical transformers, grids, and equipment that relies on electricity.
EMP blasts due to lightning are caused when a strike hits cables and nearby wires, causing a surge of electricity that will damage anything in its reach that was plugged into a wall socket. That's why it's often suggested we use surge protectors on TV's and computers.
EMP blasts that occur during solar storms are much like the ones caused by nuclear detonation or an EMP weapon. The difference is the solar particles strike the earth with a huge amount of force which ionizes the atmosphere and creates a massive cloud of electrons that end up bouncing around inside our atmosphere ruining electronics and fusing together conductive wiring. We've had a few solar storms of note, the most famous being in 1859. We almost had one in 2012, but luckily it ended up just barely missing us. We'll be at the mercy of a solar storm eventually, it's not a matter of if but when.
How Will This Affect Your Electronics?
I often get asked will my electronics get fried during an EMP blast if theyre not plugged in. The answer is maybe. It all depends on the severity of the EMP blast, your proximity to the blast, and what type of blast it was. The closer you are, and the stronger the blast, the more likely your electronics will get fried whether theyre plugged in or not.
The reason your electronics won't need to be plugged in to get ruined is that the energy created by the EMP pulse will actually melt down your transistor junctions located in semiconductor electronics. For example, you could have a shortwave radio that's not plugged in get hit by an EMP pulse and it will end up being fried.
This is the reason why so many people are concerned about an EMP blast causing a SHTF situation, where we'll need to live off the grid for an indeterminate amount of time. These strikes can happen either by a planned out attack or from mother nature's cruel hand. While there is a lot we don't know about how much damage a large EMP blast will cause, many think the damage could be catastrophic.
Chapter Two: EMP Prepper's Checklist
I n this chapter, you will learn:
Forming an EMP Survival Plan
40 Items You'll Want to Stockpile
15 Items That Are Perfect For Bartering
What is an EMP Vehicle Plan
Forming an EMP Survival Plan
I f you're serious about surviving after an EMP attack you need to have a plan in place and preps ready to go. Going into a survival situation unprepared will dramatically decrease your odds of survival. There's a lot of things you'll need to take into consideration when formulating your plan.
Shelter
Where do you plan on staying with your loved ones after the grid goes down. Do you plan on bugging out to a new location or bugging in and settling down where you're at. If you live in the city you'll likely need to leave for a safer, more remote location so it's best to take that into consideration in advance.
Water
You'll need to have a good source of constant water. If you're not near water than you won't make it very long on your own. Remember, you want to live near a water source, but if you're too close you might draw attention from other people or dangerous wildlife. You'll also need to come up with systems for filtering and storing your water. I use multiple 55 gallon drums to keep my water stored in.
Food
Do you plan on building a stockpile. If not you're going to be in trouble. Food will be hard to come by after an attack. Without a constant supply of new food, being trucked in the shelves will empty quick. I suggest finding a dry, cool environment you can create a stockpile to keep you and your family fed. Be sure to keep it organized and keep records of what you have and when it will expire. You'll also want to consider starting a garden and growing your own food. Some people also raise and breed their own food. Chickens are easy and provide a great source of fresh eggs and meat.
Weapons & Defense
How are you going to protect your loved ones. I suggest having some weapons and taking some classes to learn how to properly use and maintain them. You'll also want to have escape routes out of your home and area planned out in case things take a turn for the worse. I suggest having multiple bug out locations scouted so you'll have some options. You'll also want to have a bug out bag packed and ready for every family member, so you can leave on a moment's notice.
Medicine
If you have any prescriptions you need to have a supply on hand because the medication will be one of the first things to go. I would also keep a stockpile of over the counter medications for different ailments, and plenty of pain relievers. Don't forget your dental needs. There' few greater pains than tooth pain, and there won't be any access to dentists when you're on your own off the grid.
Skills & Training
I'll go over this in depth in a later chapter, but the more survival skills and training you learn the safer and more prepared you'll be for what's to come.
