PREEMIES:
THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE FOR PARENTS OF PREMATURE BABIES
For families experiencing the emotional and complex journey of the NICU, Preemies is a practical and reassuring source of information on their premature babys hospitalization, as well as the early years. A helpful resource for every NICU lending library!
Liza Cooper, LMSW, Director, NICU Family Support, March of Dimes Foundation
Preemies is a wonderful book. It covers all the bases. During the panic and confusion of having and nurturing a premature baby, Preemies will become a parents constant companion. As a clinical psychologist and father of a preemie, I deeply appreciate many aspects of Preemies and its new edition. Here are two. One is that Preemies is unique in that it provides additional information about what the doctors are thinking. Secondly, it conveys an understanding of what preemie parents are feeling, so we can realize that our fears and concerns are universal and normal.
Michael T. Hynan, Ph.D., Chair, National Perinatal Association
This second edition of Preemies is essential reading for parents of premature infants and equally for their caregivers.... This book is important.
Peter A.M. Auld, M.D., Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics, Weill Cornell Medical College, New York
Preemies is quite simply an extraordinary book. Its authors (they are parents who have been there, and an empathetic neonatologist who has seen it all) have written a comprehensive manual which gives voice to the feelings and fears of parents in an easy-to-read question-and-answer format.... The book adopts a reassuring and comforting tone when dealing with the disappointment, the grief, the joy, and the roller-coaster ride that is the experience of many parents.... I cannot think of a topic that has not been addressed. This updated book is a comprehensive reference suitable for parents and health professionals alike. I learnt a lot from it and recommend it highly.
Saroj Saigal, M.D., Professor Emerita, Department of Pediatrics; Director, Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic, McMaster University, Ontario, Canada
The problem with most books about premature babies is that they tend to emphasize everything that can go wrong, no matter how rare. Preemies: The Essential Guide for Parents of Premature Babies is a reassuring yet realistic manual on caring for a preemie.
Parenting magazine
A must-have for parents and caregivers of premature infants. The authors have done a fantastic job of writing a guide that is both comprehensive and easily understandable. I recommend this book to all parents, caregivers and educators who work with infants born prematurely.
Joelle Mast, Ph.D, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Blythedale Childrens Hospital, Valhalla, NY
Parents will treasure this sensitively written guide that supplies the reader with valuable information, resources, and emotional support.
Laura Kennedy, M.A., Director, Staten Island Early Childhood Direction Center, Staten Island University Hospital
Complex medical and psychological information is imparted in a reassuring tone to parents coping with the rigors of premature birth and premature baby care. An extensive collaboration of a neonatologist and two experienced preemie parents... Preemies will make you a more informed parentin the NICU and after.
Allison Martin, Founder, Prematurity.org, Preemie Child, and ChildrensDisabilities.info
The authors fulfill the need for information with remarkable clarity, offering answers to a multitude of questions [in] a personal, reassuring tone.... Since parents cant always plan ahead for the possibility of a preemie, this book provides a valuable crash course and serves as a useful tool for communicating with medical staff.
Publishers Weekly
This informative book reassures parents who have been thrust suddenly into the scary and unfamiliar world of the NICU.... I highly recommend purchasing a copy of this book if your little one has decided to be born too soon.
Julie M. Snyder, Editor-in-Chief, Pregnancy.org, LLC
An invaluable resource... a comprehensive, authoritative yet sensitive reference which explains a spectrum of issues in easy to understand language.... Whether read from cover to cover or used as reference text, parents of premature infants will be enlightened from the clinical wisdom provided by this book.
Frank A. Chervenak, M.D., Given Foundation Professor and Chairman, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York
Although one out of ten children born in this country is born prematurely, until now there has never been an authoritative, practical, and encouraging reference tool for their parents. This book... will prove to be a bible for parents of preemies... and in fact is certain to be a blessing to them. Enthusiastically recommended.
