ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
We would like to thank Douglas Rife, president and publisher of Solution Tree Press, for his guidance with this book, which the field had been asking us to publish! We are most appreciative of the editorial staff and their prompt and valuable responses. Moreover, Claudia Wheatley, content specialist and author liaison, has been an inspiration to us as we set our professional development experiences into writing.
Additionally, we owe many principals and district administrators for the opportunities they gave us to test the concepts and components described in this book. We are particularly indebted to Judy Radford, ESL Professional Development Coordinator, Virginia State Department of Education; Heidi Ramirez, Chief Academic Officer, and Kori Hamner, Director of Support and Professional Development, from Shelby County Schools, Tennessee; and Andrs Enriquez from the Carnegie Corporation of New York for encouraging and funding the empirical research on ExC-ELL.
