On Christmas day sale, Amazons Alexa app occupied the number 1 slot on both the iPhone App Stores and Google Play stores free app charts.

Alexa uses a smart artificial intelligence program to teach from the commands its given by the user. This makes it better and more user-friendly than other devices. With the skills API that lets anyone create their own commands for Alexa, this technology represents a drastic shift in how we as humans interact with machines.

In 2017, Amazon released two new Alexa-enabled devices to their product line; the Echo Show and the Echo Look. Previous Echos only used listening devices such as speakers and microphones, but these newly introduced products have cameras, meaning Alexa can now see and hear you.

All of the Alexa-enabled devices are linked to an app that you can either view online (alexa.amazon.com) or download on your phone. In here, you can view the record of all your Alexa commands and you can customize the settings of the device. Amazon Fire tablets work best with Alexa, but it can be accessed on any device. Amazons all FireTV products offer limited Alexa functionality. The price for the devices ranges from $30 for the Dot to $180 for the full-sized Echo.

All the previous Alexa build-in devices used speaker and microphone only. In 2017, Amazon included video to Alexa. In addition to audio performance as the Echo, the Echo Look includes a camera. With a 7 display and a front-facing camera, the Echo Show takes it one step further. Now you can use pictures and videos with Alexa. However, these devices are costlier (around $200 and $250), but they are still affordable, considering theirs functionalities.

The Alexa enabled devices are extremely easy to set-up and operate. The device will walk you through the set-up process when you take it out of the box and turn it on. Then you install the companion app on your smartphone and ready to use the device. This app is completely free and works on both Android and iOS devices. You can change any of the settings of your device and also see the command history or link your Alexa account to other services you would like to use it for.
