What I like so much about [Work It] is its deliberate accessibility. Work It will speak to those of you who arent feeling the #Girlboss or lean in or badass bause personas that so many books tout currently. Still, the secrets that make up the book still originate from some of the most successful or powerful women in business, including Kerpen herself.
800 CEO Read, Fall Favorites by and for Feminists
[Work It] will resonate with those currently struggling to achieve their goals in the business world and will encourage them to keep going.

INTRODUCTION
Leverage Your Assets
I HAVE SOMETH ING TO tell you.
Even though this book has Secrets for Success in its subtitle, I dont have your secret.
And, unlike most business/self-help/career books, theres not one core philosophy that will claim to change your life in this book.
We all want a magic bulletthe secret that will tell us how to be successful in todays world. We want to know if we should lean in, call ourselves badasses, or instead embrace our inner girl bosses. We search for guidance on how we can build our careers, our families, our looks, our spirits. We buy books, devour articles, follow bloggers, even crack fortune cookies in our search for inspiration wherever we can find it. We are desperate for the tool that will fix whatever is broken within usthat one secret thats guaranteed to help us achieve our goals and dreams.
But theres more than one tool in a toolbox, and theres more than one problem that needs fixing for women today.
The reality is that we are complicated creaturesand we want different things. We dont all want to climb the corporate ladder. We dont all want to be mothers. We each have strengths and weaknessesdifferent obstacles to overcome. Our storiesand therefore solutionscan be very different.
You may not know me yet, so heres a little background: Im what you might call an accidental entrepreneur. Despite having a rather loud inner self-critic, I built a multimillion-dollar social media agency at a time when there was no one to teach you about social media marketing and I built it without any formal education on how to start or run a business. I never went to business school, and before I started our agency, I didnt have a single day of agency experience. Thats just a small taste of my storyone thats built my narrative and philosophies about career and life development. I can (and will) give you the secrets to my own successbut thats only one tool for your kit. You deserve more than one tool.
You, my friend, deserve an entire tool kit.
In this book, Ive gathered stories and advice from more than fifty of the boldest and most inspiring women in business. These powerful ladies hail from a wide range of industries, backgrounds, ages, and work experiences. Some are names you know well (Sheryl Sandberg and Barbara Corcoran, for instance); others you may be meeting for the first time. Some have successfully climbed the corporate ladder; others have gone out on their own. Many have done (or are doing) both. All of them, however, will give you tools to WORK IT. But what exactly does that mean?
