Asperger Syndrome in Adults: A Guide To Realising Your Potential: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Asperger Syndrome in Adults: A Guide To Realising Your Potential" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

Increasing numbers of adults are being diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, while children diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorders - an estimated 300,000 in the UK - are growing up. Until recently, most information has been aimed at children with the condition, or parents. Asperger syndrome (AS) in adulthood brings different challenges, and, crucially, there are far fewer resources. According to I Exist, the National Society for Autisms report on how the needs of autistic adults are ignored, 45% of councils have no process for managing how autistic adults receive support if they dont fulfil the criteria for either learning disability or mental health services. As a result, adults are left to cope alone - and often dont cope well, with depression and other mental health problems as the result. Conversely, some adults with Asperger syndrome have learned to cover up their problems, so signs of the condition will often be quite subtle. This book addresses issues faced by adults with Asperger syndrome, and looks at the potential of adults with Asperger syndrome, exploring how they may contribute on their own terms

Asperger Syndrome in Adults

Dr Ruth Searle began her career as a nurse and midwife and, although her love of nursing has remained constant, she went on to fulfil her dream of becoming a marine biologist. She completed her PhD on humpback whale behaviour and is continuing with field research that takes her around the world. Passionate about nature, wildlife and conservation, she writes about the subjects she loves, including marine biology and the humpback whale. Ruth confesses to being hooked on studying: she recently completed a second degree in Earth sciences, cosmology and particle physics, and plans to study philosophy next. Her triumphs and struggles to find and live her own personal dreams provide the inspiration for much of her writing, including The Thinking Persons Guide to Happiness , Coping with Compulsive Eating and Overcoming Shyness and Social Anxiety , all published by Sheldon Press.
