Introduction
Welcoming Your Baby Home
Your Home can be your sanctuarya place of renewal, a source of support, and a cause of inspiration. You learn about and express yourself through your home. Therefore it makes sense that one way to prepare for parenthood is by preparing your home for your new baby. During pregnancy you are, literally, full of life. As your body is expanding, your capacity for love is expanding, and your consciousness is expanding, your home also needs to expand in its own way. As you create a nursery and prepare your home for your baby, you will be making space in your life, both physically and emotionally, for the most special gifta child. Parenting is never easy, but we believe that the more prepared you are and the more your home and life are designed to support you, the less overwhelming it will be.
As sisters, we have not only shared a home, but also a passion for everything about the home. We have always believed that a home can be so much more than simply a shelter; it can also support and shape your life. When we first learned about Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese art of placement, we realized that although it was unfamiliar to us, we had in many ways been practicing it our entire lives, so becoming Feng Shui consultants felt like a natural progression.
Fundamentally, Feng Shui is about arranging your surroundings to enhance your life. Our consulting focuses on the intuitive, universal aspects of Feng Shui that can be applied in our contemporary Western culture. Feng Shui is full of practical ideas to help you design a home that nurtures your mind, body, and spirit.
With the knowledge we acquired studying Feng Shui and life coaching techniques we began helping our clients to not only design their homes, but also to recognize their needs, clarify their goals, and then create an environment that supports them in successfully meeting those needs and attaining those goals. We began to see just how connected our homes are to our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Our homes cannot be separated from the quality of our lives. If we wish to experience good health, our homes should be healthy. If we desire more peace, our surroundings should be peaceful. Designing our homes can be so much more than just creating a beautiful spacewe are in fact designing our lives.
We were so enthusiastic about helping people recognize the power of their surroundings that we co-founded The Art of Everyday Living, a home and lifestyle consulting company, specializing in what we call Life Design, a unique service that combines Feng Shui, life coaching, interior decorating, and healthy living. Over the years, we witnessed the positive effect Life Design has had on our clients lives, as well as on our own. We also learned just how helpful our homes can be when experiencing a major life change, such as changing careers, moving, or getting married.
So when Laura began to prepare for one of the biggest events in her life, the birth of her son James, we turned to her home. By creating a room for James, we learned how to apply these principles to a nursery. Together we shared our ideas on how to create a comfortable, peaceful, healthy, and beautiful nursery as well as an organized and prepared home that would best support a transition into parenthood. Realizing just how challenging and powerful this transition can be inspired us to share what wed learned about preparing a nursery for the benefit of other expectant parents.
