Having pets is almost as American as apple pie and cheeseburgers. Dogs are thought to be mans best friend, and people take in these animals without a second thought a lot of the time. However, if you dont have previous experience with dogs or a sound understanding of their psychologies and perspectives, chances are your relationship with your dog, and the dogs life will suffer as a result. People love to take out their inability to understand their pets on their pets. They lack patience and understanding for these animals, who, without their approval, were taken from their place in the wild and domesticated for human use. Just because people believe that humans are at the top of the ladder, animals have come to be seen as beneath us and meant to serve people.

Introduction

Having pets is almost as American as apple pie and cheeseburgers. Dogs are thought to be man's best friend, and people take in these animals without a second thought a lot of the time. However, if you don't have previous experience with dogs or a sound understanding of their psychologies and perspectives, chances are your relationship with your dog, and the dog's life will suffer as a result.

People love to take out their inability to understand their pets on their pets. They lack patience and understanding for these animals, who, without their approval, were taken from their place in the wild and domesticated for human use. Just because people believe that humans are at the top of the ladder, animals have come to be seen as beneath us and meant to serve people.

That doesn't mean at all that you personally believe having a dog is something to benefit yourself. It is just the general attitude toward animals that is flawed, and you can observe this right in your own city when you take a look at your local animal shelter. People take on more than they can chew, and when their dog isn't what they imagine they will be and turn out to be a lot of work because they are their own individuals, they abuse them, or give them up, or both.

Thankfully, there is a way to prevent yourself from getting too frustrated with a pet you don't understand. Being the guardian of an animal companion isn't as easy as you may think. They have their own thoughts and feelings, habits, and dysfunctions, and one of those is trying to learn how to communicate with humans who, all too often, don't know how to listen. If you want to learn to truly create a healthy bond with your animal companion and provide them with a structured home and place they can live happily with you for the rest of their lives, then this book is for you!

Why I Wrote This Book

I wrote this book because I feel very sorry for animals. They don't understand English, and they certainly don't understand our habits. All they know is that if they choose to express the wrong thing about themselves, that people will often go berserk. It isn't fair the last time someone tried to control how you act, how did that make you feel? Probably not very happy.

Well dogs, of all animals, have to deal with this the most of most animals. They are loud, energetic, ornery, and yet, somehow, they still always forgive our mistakes and the fact that we don't know how to deal with them. It seems the more abused they are the more loyal they become when trying to show us that they are worth better than what they get from the people who have no good understanding of them.

People carelessly bring dogs into their lives without knowing anything about them or what makes them tick. They have an ideal that's been perpetuated over time and through the media that dogs are inherently obedient, calm, and loyal toward the people who take care of them, when in reality the truth is it takes a lot of training and trust between dog and human to get that way. Most dogs are rebellious and don't react well to being dominated by people who can't communicate with them.

It's because of this that I am writing this book. I want people to think hard before adopting a dog, or any animal, on a whim, and know how they will have to communicate with that animal in order to maintain a healthy relationship with their animal companion. They didn't ask to live with you, so you should at least do your best to understand their behaviors before reacting to them.

Hopefully this book will be able to shed some light on the great depth of a dog and how humans can work together with their animal companions to create a peaceful lifestyle, where each can happily coexist with the other. Yes, barking and eccentric behaviors are annoying, but what is more annoying is being ripped from an environment where these behaviors are suitable and necessary and being told that their instincts are completely unwelcome. Please do your best to give your dogs understanding, loyalty, and forgiveness just as they give us when we aren't patient with their natural behaviors.

I wrote this book to help both the people who have chosen to bring dogs into their lives and also the dogs themselves. A dog's life will only be as good as you make it, and if you consider them an inconvenience and not a being worthy of attention, love, and patience, I'm afraid I don't believe your dog is going to have its best chance at happiness and a great and rewarding life. We choose to take them out of nature and domesticate them the least we can do is understand them.

I hope you are able to take something of value from my book and learn how best to treat your animal companions when teaching them how you would like them to coexist with you within your home. They don't think of the world the same way we do, and their perceptions will more often than not fuel their behaviors. Regardless of what you may think, they don't have it out for you if they don't know how to behave. They just need patient and careful guidance. This book will show you how.

What You Should Know Before Reading This Book

Before you read this book, it is important to know that dogs are not the same as babies. They're not even the same as cats. Dogs are needy, eager to please, loving, kind...and yet they are also dogs. They will act out if their needs aren't being met, chew your shoes if they don't know what else they're supposed to chew, and bark at things that alarm them and try to bring your attention to any threats they perceive. They want to protect you, but they do so in annoying ways.

Dogs that act aggressive may actually have psychological issues. It's important to remember that animals also have their own complex psychological systems and needs that are as basic to them as companionship is for us. They are similar in that they are social animals, which seems to make it easier for people to bond with them. However, it is a mistake to assume that a dog's needs are as easy to identify and understand as our own when we, quite frankly, are a different species all together.

Understanding your dog on a personal level is just as important as understanding dogs in general. Just as no two snowflakes or people are alike, neither are two dogs. Yes, you may understand and be able to predict similar behavior among dogs, but they are their own beings and as such deserve to be treated respectfully and with kindness and patience. I'm personally of the opinion that they treat us with patience, kindness, and forgiveness every day.

It's no secret that most people don't understand their dogs and use them to go on a power trip when their dog isn't behaving according to what the human must wish, but they don't all get tired of our crap and tear us apart. That's a victory for us, and a pardon from them. Return the favor and don't abuse your pets. If that's too difficult for you, relinquish their care to the humane society or a friend who will give them the love and kindness they deserve.

Please keep in mind before reading this book that no matter how difficult you may find it to train your animal companion, they do not deserve physical or emotional mistreatment. Shouting at them will only make matters worse for both of you, as these loud noises don't always register as punishment to a dog who can't understand your words. There are better ways to teach your dog than yelling and hitting, and this book is here to show you how. Heed the words wisely or otherwise really examine yourself and your habitual anger and surrender your dog to a home they can enjoy.
