Like most of us (excluding the few luckyones!) teenage brought its share of oily and acne prone skin intomy life. Being very conscious of my self-image I desperatelystarted using various over the counter medications, face washes, creams, gels and cosmetics that would eliminate pimples and returnmy baby soft skin. But overuse of chemicals worsened the skincondition, which in turn impacted my self-confidence and I shiedaway from socializing.
After spending a fortune and lot ofexperimentation on my poor skin I realized that chemical ladenproducts are doing more harm than good by aggravating the skincondition.
Finally I resorted to age old beauty ritualsand remedies made with simple natural ingredients. On my mothersinsistence I halfheartedly started using milk for cleansing, rosewater for toning and glycerin for moisturizing. For pimples andscars I regularly applied turmeric, gram flour, mint leaves andlemon juice face pack. The results were gradual but definitelyworth the wait.
Thats how I got inclined towards naturalingredients as they are gentle, soothing and most importantly veryeffective, as they contain all essential nutrients our skin needsin their purest form.
Over time my passion for going all naturalhas only increased. My mantra is to keep things simple and chemicalfree thats why the home remedies in this book comprise of very fewsteps and few ingredients.
I do not advice in blindly following anyremedies before knowing your skin condition and the nutrients itneeds, therefore my succeeding chapters are about skin types, ingredients and what nutrients they contain so that you can make aninformed decision and mix and match natural ingredients accordingto your skin type and its needs.
I have also tried to share in laymans termshow chemicals and toxins that we consume through food and otherfactors negatively impact our skin and overall health, whats anideal skin care routine and home remedies for different skintypes.
My experience taught me that healthy skincannot be achieved by merely applying natural products. Drasticimprovement in my skin was noticeable only when I followed aholistic approach of nutritious diet, meditation and workout.
My findings of more than 10 years in thisfield have positively impacted my skin and of those around me.Therefore I hope this book helps you too in some way.
Skin is the largest organ of our body and itdepicts our internal health. Whatever is applied on skin getsabsorbed by the body, hence its imperative to carefully chooseskin care products and cosmetics.
Our skin needs to breathe, it needs effectiveyet gentle care. The harshness of chemicals in makeup and skin careproducts destroy natural pH balance (acidic level) that eithermakes skin too dry, too oily or too sensitive. That does not meanwe should stop wearing makeup or using any readily available skincare product. The point is to have a right balance.
Make sure to use good quality makeup suitablefor your skin type (oily, dry or combination) and always remove itbefore going to bed with a natural makeup remover like olive oil sothat your skin can breathe and rejuvenates at night as cellregeneration is faster at night than day.
All our skin requires is essential vitamins, minerals, enzymes and anti-oxidants that replenish skin. Naturalingredients contain these nutrients in the most unadulterated form.Fruits, vegetables, milk, curd, spices, herbs and oils can provideall that your skin needs without any side effects of harmfulchemicals.
Achieving healthy skin is not an uphilltask but it definitely requires a consistent and mindfuleffort.
A basic cleansing, toning and moisturizingtwice a day regime should be followed along with exfoliation andfacial masks twice a week.
Healthy diet comprising of fresh fruits andvegetables should be taken as nutrients prevent and reversecellular damage. A healthy body= glowing skin.
Workout of at least 30 minutes increasesblood flow to the skin making it glow. Sweat opens up clogged poresthus its important to cleanse face thoroughly post workout to washout dirt and bacteria.
Stress is another factor that impacts skinnegatively. Try deep breathing, write a journal, avoid negativityand have a positive outlook. Positivity shines through yourskin.
Drink at least 10 glasses of water to keepskin hydrated.
Quit smoking, avoid alcohol, cut down sugar, eliminate fried and processed food as they are toxic for the bodyand hinder cell regeneration resulting in not only poor skin butmany other diseases.
Never ever ignore the importance of a goodsunscreen. Even if you are going out for 5 minutes or its cloudyoutside do wear SPF 30+ sunscreen to prevent UV rays frompenetrating and damage skin cells. Zinc oxide and titanium oxideare two important ingredients a good sunscreen should have.
Vitamins are the foundation of a healthy bodyand healthy skin. When we take our daily supply of essentialvitamins they nourish, restore and repair damaged cells, aid infaster regeneration of new cells. After all what we put into ourbodies is reflected on the skin.
Along with applying vitamins on skin surfaceits imperative to consume the daily recommended amount of allessential vitamins for proper functioning of bodys internalsystem.
Different vitamins have different role toplay in replenishing the skin. You can treat your skin inside outby both consuming and applying foods rich in vitamin A, B, C, E andk.

A derivative of vitamin A called Retinoicacid/ retinoid is used in most anti-aging and anti-acne creams asit controls sebum (oil) production. Sebum is a nutrient source forbacteria, so in simple terms, less sebum= less bacteria= clearhealthy skin.
A topical retinoid solution is used for spottreatment but it can make skin dry and sensitive. Try very lowpercentage (.5) solution or consult a dermatologist for an accurateprescription.
Vitamin B is essential for hair, nails andskin health. It aids in synthesis and better absorption of othernutrients in the body as well. Vitamin B complex consist of 8 watersoluble vitamins known as
vitamin b1 (thiamine)
vitamin b2 (riboflavin)
vitamin b3 (niacin)
vitamin b5 (pantothenic acid)
vitamin b6 (pyridoxine)
vitamin b7 (biotin)
