Traveling to the Philippines in a fewweeks? You dont have to worry too much. Culture shock will bepretty minimal compared to visiting other Asian countries. Whileother Asian countries often give foreigners a hard time adjusting, the Philippines will feel just like home. Well, almost.
This book had been written to introduceforeigners to the complex but very fascinating culture of theFilipino people. Having been among Filipinos for 10 years, I havebeen through all phases of immersion into a whole new differentculture. It had been both tough and fun for me. I hope to make itmostly fun for you by sharing my thoughts and observations throughthis small book.
A Tourist-Friendly, Beautiful Place
In many Asian countries, locals usuallyhave very different cultures and people are more religious. Theywear more traditional clothing and have lesser knowledge of foreignlanguages. Filipinos, on the other hand, are Westernized in so manyaspects. As you get to spend time with the locals, you willeventually see that they have a liberal and fascinating culture. Most of all, everyone seems to understand basic English, making itextremely helpful for foreigners travelling in different regions ofthe country.
Many people visiting the Philippines willdiscover how English is so widely used as a second language amongFilipinos of different groups or classes. Young or old, everyonehas learned it formally and informally. They can communicate withtourists and make their stay easier. They can easily assist yousearch for a hotel, find a place to eat, or you go shopping. Youwill be happy to always find someone who will be there to helpyou.

Youcan then go to other exciting islands or provinces includingPalawan, Cebu, Negros, Panay and Mindanao. There are also a lot ofsmaller islands which offer truly beautiful sceneries and richwildlife. If youre adventurous, you might even like visiting someof the most beautiful and undeveloped islands.
If you decide to go exploring, you will behappy to find global food chains such as McDonald's or Burger King. You can even sip your favorite coffee in places like Starbucks andKrispy Kreme. There are also cheap but nice donut shops like DunkinDonuts and Mister Donuts.
There are many shops, stores and big mallsall over the place. You can also watch the newest movie premieres.Going and living in the Philippines might be a big change forforeigners like me.
