About the Author

Longtime Santa Fe resident and former teacher Nicky Leach moved from her native England to the American West over 35 years ago. She has been exploring the region and writing and editing books, articles, and essays about it ever since. Nicky is the award-winning author of more than 55 travel guides, including Insiders Guide: Santa Fe and Day Trips from Albuquerque for Globe Pequot. She is also a trained bodyworker and has maintained a part-time craniosacral therapy practice in Santa Fe since 2004.

Acknowledgments

This eleventh edition of New Mexico Off the Beaten Path builds on the strong foundation of the original guide created by the late Richard K. Harris in 1991. I am honored to once again update and add to it. I want to acknowledge first and foremost my longtime friendship and professional respect for my colleague and friend of more than two decades. I was fortunate to know Richard and work with him on several guides, and to share our publishing community here in Santa Fea town that Richard, for all his wanderlust, loved deeply. We all miss you, Richard.

Id like to thank my New Mexico community, many of whom help keep me up to date daily on whats happening here and generously share resources and, most important, support and friendship at key times. Among them: Steve Lewis and the Santa Fe CVB; Shelley Thompson and Steve Cantrell at New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs; National Park Service interpreter Christine Beekman; Indian trader Frank Hill and his musician wife Amy Bianco; Albuquerque foodie Dawn Singh; local journalist Candelora Versace; Vicki Pozzebon, Delicious New Mexico; cookbook author and New Mexico food blogger Cheryl Alters Jamison; the late Silver City author Richard Mahler; artists Lynne Windsor and Barry McCuan; novelist Jo-Ann Mapson; Jo Fisher, Lensic Center of the Performing Arts; travel writer Nancy Zimmerman; poet Jeanie C. Williams; and publisher Ellen Kleiner, Richards longtime partner.

Last, but first in my heart, my beloved 13-year-old feline companion Molly died during the final busy weeks of the last update in 2013. I still miss her help very much, particularly on deadline days.
