thank you for being my light, even on the darkest of days.
CONTENTS
C ozy. Its become so much more than a word for me, so much more than a way to decorate and design. It is now a way of life, of approaching the world and the choices we make within it. These days, especially, I find that coziness is less about paint colors, linens, and lightingthough I could talk for days about those things. Instead, cozy is more about creating a space that welcomes, nourishes, and surrounds us with warmth, love, and comfort through each changing season of the year and the ever-changing seasons of our lives. Cozy is about transforming our own little corner of the world into a private refuge. Not a place of perfection, but a place of peace and belonging, a place to retreat to when all the demands and distractions of life press in.
But how do we do that? How do we create that sanctuary for ourselves and those we share this life with? Thats a question I began asking myself a few years ago. Though I have been drawn to decorating and design since I was a child (thanks to the classiest woman Ive ever metmy grandmother), it wasnt until after I married that I began to intentionally cultivate this cozy approach to life. Jose was in the military, and the day after we were married, we were relocated to North Carolina. With friends and family far away and a husband who deployed for months at a time, I searched for a sense of security and comfort. Adding cozy cottage touches to our small rental and trying out some DIY projects brought me joy and reminders of home in a new, unfamiliar place.
A blog, a book, and a baby later, Jose, Cope, and I are now back in our home state of Michigan, living in our forever homea hundred-year-old farmhouse perched in the middle of eight sprawling acres. We call it White Cottage Farm, and its an ever-evolving work in progress. Were filling the grounds with orchards and gardens, sheep, cats, dogs, and even bees. Were filling our home with DIYs and cozy cottage style, and our hearts are already filled to overflowing with our son, Copeland Beauaffectionately known as Cope. Through my own imperfections I share that life doesnt have to be perfect to be cozy.
Perhaps youve known me for a while through my posts at LizMarieBlog.com, or perhaps you met me through my first book, Cozy White Cottage, or maybe this is our introduction as you are just now beginning to seek out a cozier way to live. Regardless, let me say, Welcome. Here youll find ideas and inspiration for making your own home a haven of coziness in every season of the yearwhether its a high-rise apartment in the city, a tiny house in the suburbs, or a hundred-year-old house on a farm.
In my first book, we explored a hundred different ways to cozy up your home and dcor. But in Cozy White Cottage Seasons Im inviting you to journey with me through an entire year of coziness. Together, well create spaces, places, and moments of coziness that draw out the best of each of the seasons. Whether youre savoring the fresh air of spring, the vibrant and joyful colors of summer, the ever-changing wonders of fall, or the wrapped-up-in-blankets warmth of winter, each season beckons with its own brand of coziness, and Ill show you how to bring that out in your dcor. Well also talk through some of the basics of design and how to adapt them for the different times of year. But more than that, well look at how to make the most of each season, weaving a thread of coziness throughout the different facets of our lives, as well as in our homes.
