Whom to Call On for Specific Needs FOLLOWING THE PUBLICATION OF MY BOOK Power Animals, many people asked me the meaning of spirit animals that werent contained in that book, and in my workshops whenever I did power animal readings, various animal spirits would come through that I wasnt as acquainted with as I wanted to be.

Although there were a lot of excellent books, DVDs, and Websites in which to get information about the animal kingdom and the meaning of animal spirit guides (whether theyre called totem animals, power animals, spirit animals, or familiars), none were as simple and straightforward as I would have preferred. I found that when someone had an unusual experience with an animal or had repeated sightingswhether the animal appeared in physical or symbolic formtheir first priority would be to understand what that visitation meant and what possible messages the spirit world was trying to convey to them through the essence of that particular animal. Another question that most people had was to understand why a particular totem or power animal was with them and what that said about their personality and character. A third area of interest was to know which animal spirit helpers to call on for a particular purpose, such as whom to call on to increase self-confidence or to interpret dreams. It became evident that to have such a book, Id have to create it, along with the help and contributions of the animal spirit guides themselves. My intention, as the subtitle suggests, was to write a practical, accessible, and easy-to-use handbook or guide that would cut to the chase and respond to these concerns in a simple, straightforward format.

You wont find any detailed descriptions or information on the 200-plus animal spirit guides represented in this book; rather there is simply a photo of each animal. Most of us know what the more common animals look like, but what if one that isnt so common appears to you as a spirit guide? Written descriptions are sometimes a little harder to visualize, but as has been said, a picture is worth a thousand words. And if you desire more details about the actual animal, you can easily find more information through books, Websites, and DVDs, many of which Ive listed in the Resources section in the Appendix. I trust that youll find this bookand the animal spirit guides represented herehelpful on your spiritual path. I know that these incredible beings have guided, taught, and helped heal me in ways far too numerous to count. In fact, Ive had a lot of help from them in putting this book together, one of the most prominent being Hawk spirit.
