Babyopathy Relaxed Mum, Contented Baby is first and foremost about Angelas research into the effects of stress during pregnancy and how to combat this using her sensory techniques to enjoy a positive and relaxed pregnancy and birth to have a relaxed and contented baby. It is also about having lots of information so that you, as parents, can do what is right for you and your family wherever possible.

More and more people are recognising the need to de-stress in our busy lives. Angela wants to help empower mums with the information they need to know about their sensory journey when pregnant and their babys sensory experiences in the womb too, so they can make positive choices wherever possible. Just as important is giving parents ways to help nurture the sensory journeys and help de-stress and relax to enjoy their pregnancies, birth and beyond!

Angelas message is we should be mums supporting mums through a journey that wherever possible should be positive, nurtured and supported. By giving mums as much information as possible they can make the right decisions for them and their family then they are relaxed mums with contented babies!

Awarded the Best Family and Parenting Book 2019, and Angela is also winner of the 2019 Parenting Practitioner award in the Janey Loves Awards.

Dedication

For my amazing children who I love completely and without whom I would not have begun my research.

For my wonderful parents without whom I would not have been inspired to open my first nursery or make it through the sleepless nights.

For the thousands of children, families and staff that passed through my care during 25 years of owning nurseries, you were my lifes work.

And for the pregnant mums and their babies I now work with, you are my continued passion.

Book Reviews and Testimonials

Hertfordshire GP Dr David Maddams

Review: Love the Babyopathy concept and its positive energy. A nice, original if not fascinating idea it grabs you (or did me!). The sensory section could cause a revolution in how we nurture our babies before and after birth.

Testimonial:Angela has drawn on her huge experience of childcare to produce a unique book to get everyone thinking from mums and dads to professionals and policy makers.

Psychotherapist, Counsellor & Easy-Birthing

Practitioner Natasha Crowe

Review: I enjoyed the book, I liked the tone, it was friendly and I didnt feel patronised, which can often be the case with baby or parenting books.

Testimonial:A book that supports parents in using their intuition by helping them to enjoy their parenting journey.

Mother of oneSarah

Review: Love it! If only this had been around when I had my son! Clearly written by someone who has had both professional and personal experience of baby care and is not afraid to say keep it simple.

Testimonial:What new mums need is simple, straightforward honesty which is what is in this book.

Mother of two (three years and eight weeks) Lucy

Review: For a busy mum of two, I thought it was easy to read with the limited time I have. I liked the Top Tips and Crystal notes to use. I liked the Breastfeeding section the most as although I have breastfed both of mine this was a good approach. There is far too much pressure to breastfeed by midwives etc.

Testimonial:Refreshingly realistic. I wish I had this book when I had my first child!

Chapter One

What is Babyopathy Babyopathy is baby led sensory development but what - photo 9

What is Babyopathy?

Babyopathy is baby led sensory development but what exactly does that mean?

Give a baby an experience and they will want to know more!

If a baby is just left in a cot with no interaction or sensory stimulation, what do you think they will learn? How do you think they will develop? Well I can tell you they will follow a certain natural developmental path as time passes but that development will most likely be slower and stunted in many ways.

If, however, you nurture and stimulate their senses from the moment they begin to develop and give them a world of interaction and experiences, how do you think they will develop then? What do you think they will learn?

The answer this time is anything and everything is possible!

However, for some reason beyond my comprehension we are leaving babies to their own devices but this time, literally! It has become normal to put a baby in front of a screen or for us to be glued to it instead and so therefore human interaction is at its all-time low for these beautiful babies. Research proves a lack of interaction with babies severely affects their social and emotional well-being and natural development put them in front of a screen too and you throw in stunted physical development, speech delays, lack of cognitive skills and behavioural problems fact, not fiction!

However, the more you interact with your baby, the more experiences you give them, the more they will want. Their brain will naturally begin to look for the interaction, look for more experiences and do their very best to respond, even from within the womb. If you also give them a sensory routine to follow, allow their senses to recognise what time of the day it is (nap time, milk time or play time) they will also naturally find their own rhythm in the world that naturally nurtures their well-being and development. But they will also be much more contented!

Babyopathy gives you those tools to nurture your babys natural sensory journey from where it starts, in the womb, and thus nurture their whole well-being too. It gives you the knowledge that we seem to have lost over the years to support your babys unique developmental path, and it supports your journey as a mum in todays busy and stressful world - and that begins before you even become pregnant!

So now you know what Babyopathy is, here are our passions when it comes to what we do; we hope that you find and believe in these passions too
