Introduction

This book is your guide to one of the most magnificent and mysterious topics in astrology: your Moon sign! Yes, you dont just get a Sun sign when you are born. All of the stars and planets in the sky create a celestial snapshot of the exact moment you were bornyour birth chart. The placement of the Sun and Moon, the planets, and even asteroids tells a rich story to those who study the stars.

While our Sun sign symbolizes our ego and will, and is an outward-facing part of our personality, the Moon sign represents our internal environmentour emotions, memories, and subconscious. Because the Moon sign relates to such a private side of ourselves, it is one of the most exciting to exploreall our wants and worries are touched by our Moon sign. Mystics have long associated the Moon with the mother archetype, and indeed, the Moon is like a womb; it is a metaphorical container for our feelings. Our emotions ebb and flow like the Moon, always waxing and waning. Taking time to reflect on our Moon sign provides a window into our deepest self, showing us what we need to feel secure and nurtured.

When astrologers examine the Moon in someones birth chart, they are considering many things, including the zodiac sign the Moon is in, the house it is in, and what connections it might be making to other planets at the time of birth. This book specifically explores the first piece, the sign the Moon occupied at the time of birth. In these pages, you will learn the characteristics and personality traits related to each Moon signwhat those who fall under that sign may need to feel comforted and secure, and how they approach and enjoy their home, family, work, friendships, and love life. Each chapter also touches on the progressed Moon. Although this is an advanced astrological concept, I address it in this book because it provides a fascinating glimpse into how our birth charts change and grow as we do.

Not everything in this book will resonate with you, and thats OKtake what is helpful. Astrology is a beautiful tool for self-examination; however, its hardly the final word. Astrology, after all, was created by people, and people are flawed! I certainly dont know you or your life better than you do, so please take the ideas in this book as just that: ideas for you to entertain, have conversations about, reflect on, be inspired by, or disagree with. I hope you enjoy this book and that it inspires meaningful conversations with the people you love and helps you connect deeply with your secret self, the self that is constantly evolving and reacting to new experiences and stages of life!

A Quick Overview

To start using this book, you must know what your Moon sign is, which you can figure out rather easily through online chart calculation software or an astrologer. You will need to know your birthday (day, month, and year), birth time, and birth location. If you do not have all of this data, a qualified astrologer can still help you determine your planetary placements through a process called chart rectification, where they ask you questions about your life and when things happened to determine your birth chart.

This book has twelve chaptersone for each Moon signand each chapter opens with general information about the element (Fire, Earth, Air, and Water), modality (cardinal, fixed, and mutable), and planetary and tarot associations for that zodiac sign. Next, we do a deeper dive on emotions, needs, and the inner landscape. Then, we examine home and family life, a crucial aspect of the Moon sign. In this section, I discuss everything from home decor and domestic habits to childhood and parental attitudes.

We also look at career in this book. Why would we look at something so public and outward for something so private as the Moon? Well, because our Moon sign permeates everything we do, and sometimes the deepest, most private parts of ourselves drive what we do in public.

Then we examine friendship and love relationships. Although the Moon symbolizes the internal world, our interactions with others have a great deal to do with our emotional well-being. Relationships hinge on trust and security between others and ourselves. Safety, protection, and nurturance are strong themes for the Moon; for this reason, the Moon sign frequently makes an appearance when we are discussing our needs, sharing memories, and getting cozy with the people we are close to and comfortable with. It can also make a strong appearance when we are setting boundaries.

In the compatibility section, I compare the sexual and emotional chemistry between the different Moon signs. My first book, The Astrology of Love & Sex, explores compatibility from the perspective of Sun signs, and I could not resist doing it again, this time from the perspective of the magical, mysterious Moon. But please know: Your real-life interactions with your lover, and the level of maturity and communication you share, will always triumph over what any astrological compatibility delineation says.

While you only have one natal Moon sign, that does not mean you should only read one chapter of this book. Every chapter applies to you because all twelve zodiac signs are located in your birth chart. As you age, your Moon sign progresses through each sign, changing approximately every two and a half years. Therefore, each chapter ends with a section on the progressed Moon for that specific zodiac sign. Read each one to reveal how you have and will experience your emotional life through the lens of that sign. You can read the rest of each chapter too, as you may discover aspects about yourself that you never realized before!

If you already know your natal Moon sign, you can do a loose estimation of your progressed Moon sign by going ahead one sign on the zodiac wheel for every two and a half years of your life. Generally, your progressed Moon will be in the opposite sign when you are around fourteen and again when you are around forty, and will return to its natal placement when you are around twenty-seven and a half and again when you are around fifty-four. However, these are just estimations, and an app, a website, or a qualified astrologer who can calculate your progressed Moons placement is the best way to go.
