Ingredients
8 teaspoons oil | 390 ml water | 600 g white bread flour ( 4 cups ) | 8 teaspoons powdered milk | 1 teaspoon salt | 4 teaspoons sugar | 6 teaspoons baking powder |

Directions
Add ingredients in the order specified by your bread machine .
Set machine to yeast free setting .
If you don't have one, I would recommend making the dough in the machine, and then baking in the oven .

Description
Damper Bread was a staple of the early Australian settlers' diet . Traditionally, the dough was cooked directly on the coals of an open fire . If you use this method, have a beer handy in case some of the ashes on the damper are still glowing when you eat it !

Ingredients
4 cups self - rising flour | 1 teaspoon salt | 1 tablespoon butter , softened | 1 cup milk | / 2 cup water |

Step 1 Preheat oven to 220 C ( 425 F ) Grease the baking sheet . Advertising
Step 2 Stir together the flour and salt in a large bowl . Cut the butter with a pastry blender or hand . Make a well in the center of the flour mixture, pour milk and water . Stir until the dough gathers . Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and make it into an 8 - inch round loaf . Place the rope on the prepared pan and use a sharp knife to cut the cross on top .
Step 3 Bake for 25 minutes in a preheated oven, then lower the temperature to 175 C ( 350 F ) and continue to bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes . The lump should be golden brown, and if lightly tapped, the bottom should be empty .

Baked Apple
