Paul Andrews took his PhD at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, with work on the composer Herbert Howells. He also holds a Diploma in Theology from the University of Oxford. He was Music Librarian at Bedford Central Library and the Royal College of Music, and is now Project Manager for Cecilia and is an ordained priest in the Church of England.
Christopher Cipkin is Liaison Librarian for Music, Film and Drama at the University of Reading. He has a particular interest in training both library users and staff. Recently, he has published articles on music skills for librarians and on professional mentoring. Christopher is also a Member of the Institute for Learning and Teaching (ILT).
Eric Cooper moved from industry to librarianship in 1949 where he specialized in music and sound recording. His lifelong interest in non-print media and technology continues to this day. He says, to quote Bronowky, 'My regret is I will not be around to see how it turns out'.
Julie Crawley is Deputy Librarian at the Faculty of Music Library, University of Oxford. She has previously worked as Assistant Librarian at the University of Exeter. Julie studied musicology at King's College, London, and Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She has been a member of IAML(UK) since the late 1980s and was General Secretary from 1991 to 1995.
John Gough has worked with music for most of his professional life. An active musician, he has practical experience of the problems surrounding the provision of performance materials. Music librarian for Sutton Coldfield for 20 years, he is now Head of Music Services for Birmingham Libraries. John has served IAML in various capacities over many years and is at present a member of the IAML Executive.
Ann Harrold has been a music librarian at the Central Music Library, Westminster, an information officer at the Library Association, and Publicity Manager for Library Association Publishing. She was the founder of Music Press. Ann has an MLS from Loughborough, her dissertation being on music iconography in seventeenth-century Dutch art. She has been a member of IAML and the RMA.
Ruth Hellen has always worked in public libraries, becoming Audio Visual Librarian with the London Borough of Enfield in 1989 and subsequently Library Resources Unit Manager. She became involved with IAML(UK) as Conference Secretary, later joining the Executive Committee and serving as Press and PR Officer. Ruth was IAML(UK) President from 1998 to 2001 and is currently a Vice President of IAML.
Malcolm Jones , after gaining a degree in Music and English Literature at Southampton, joined Birmingham Public Libraries as a graduate trainee. Shortly after qualifying, he was appointed Birmingham's first Music Librarian, with a brief to create the department. He is a past President and Honorary Member of IAML(UK). He took early retirement in 1995 and now works in the area of music bibliography and information technology, having been project manager for Encore! In 2002 he received the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals' Tony Kent Strix Award for outstanding practical innovation or achievement in the field of information retrieval. Malcolm has been Reader in the Church of England for over 30 years, and in spare time he and his wife, Frances, take to the canals in the narrowboat, Encore!
Graham Lea combined the chairmanship of the school Gramophone Society with the presidency of the Jazz Club. After reading philosophy, then geology, he became an information management consultant and computer scientist. Graham is a specialist in knowledge systems, and served as Chairman of the Association of Database Producers. He participated in a London University course on Medieval and Renaissance music.
Ian Ledsham is a professional musician and qualified librarian. He was Librarian of the Barber Institute of Fine Arts and Music at the University of Birmingham, England, before deciding to pursue a freelance career. He now works as a choir trainer, organist and accompanist, runs the Music Information Consultancy providing freelance research and is a partner in Allegro Training, which provides information skills and management training. He is an honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Music at the University of Birmingham and University Organist there.
Malcolm Lewis is Senior Librarian: Music and Multi-Media with Nottingham City Libraries. He has worked in public libraries since 1966 and before his current appointment worked as music librarian with Croydon, Norwich, Norfolk and Nottinghamshire Libraries. Actively involved in IAML(UK) since the 1970s Malcolm was a member of the Executive Committee from 1985 to 2002 and served as Branch President from 1992 to 1995.
Kirsteen McCue is a lecturer in the department of Scottish Literature at the University of Glasgow. She was formerly director of the Scottish Music Information Centre, and works regularly as a presenter for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
Brian Redfern was appointed lecturer at North Western Polytechnic Library School (later Polytechnic of North London) in 1961. He retired in 1981 and became editor of MPA's Music in Print catalogue until 1997. His posts held with IAML have included President IAML(UK), international President and Fontes editor.
Roger Taylor is Performing Arts Librarian at Somerset Libraries Arts and Information. He has worked in public libraries since 1971. Roger served as President of IAML(UK) from 1995 to 1998, and in 1998 was awarded a Library Association Royal Charter Centenary Medal. From 1994 he undertook many professional outreach visits, including Albania (seven times), Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Macedonia and Slovenia. In 1997 he worked as a consultant for the Council of Europe in Vukovar, Croatia.
