About the Authors

A native of California, Shawn Blore has lived and worked in a half dozen countries and traveled in at least 50 more (but whos counting?). Long a resident of Vancouver, Shawn has for the past few years made his home in Rio de Janeiro. He is an award-winning magazine writer and the author of Vancouver: Secrets of the City and co-author of Frommers Brazil and Frommers Portable Rio de Janeiro.

Alexandra de Vries made her first journey to Brazil at the ripe old age of 1 month. (Alas, few of her food reviews from that trip survive.) In the years since, Alexandra has returned many times to travel, explore, and live in this amazing country. Alexandra co-writes Frommers Brazil and Frommers Portable Rio de Janeiro about her all-time favorite place to visit.

Writer and photographer Nicholas Gill is based in Lima, Peru and Brooklyn, New York. His work regularly appears in publications such as the New York Times, Conde Nast Traveler, Caribbean Travel & Life, and World Hum. He has also contributed to Frommers Chile & Easter Island and Frommers Central America and written Frommers Honduras.

Eliot Greenspan is a poet, journalist, and travel writer who took his backpack and typewriter the length of Mesoamerica before settling in Costa Rica in 1992. Since then, he has traveled almost ceaselessly around Latin America, writing articles and guidebooks to feed his travel habit. He feels particularly at home in the neotropicsin its rain and cloud forests, on its rivers, and under its seas. Eliot is the author of Frommers Ecuador, Frommers Costa Rica, Frommers Belize, and Costa Rica Day by Day.

Charlie OMalley is a writer and wine enthusiast who can be found living in Argentina, when hes not traveling the rest of South America. He has also worked on Frommers Central America, Nicaragua & El Salvador, and Argentina.

Christie Pashby is the author of Frommers Banff and Jasper National Parks and a contributing writer to Frommers Argentina and Frommers Chile & Easter Island. She divides her time between the Canadian Rockies and Patagonia, where she runs a small guiding business with her husband.

Jisel Perilla worked with a nonprofit microcredit organization in Medelln, Colombia, and has written about, lived in, and traveled throughout much of Latin America. She currently resides in the Washington, D.C., area and is the author of Frommers Panama.

Neil Edward Schlecht first trekked to Machu Picchu in 1983 as a college student, while spending his junior year abroad in Quito, Ecuador. The author of more than a dozen travel guides (including Frommers Peru and Buenos Aires Day by Day ) and a photographer, he has lived for extensive periods in Brazil and Spain. He now resides in Litchfield County, CT.
