I acknowledge two great coaches in my belief of using game-like drills as teaching tools. One is Homer Smith, the present offensive coordinator at the University of Arizona and my former head coach at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Homer taught me the importance of specificity of drill practice. The other is Jim McNally, presently the offensive line coach for the Carolina Panthers of the NFL. Jim taught me the importance of the use of drills as teaching and coaching tools.

Preface
The ability of a quarterback to perform on the playing field at a level commensurate with his God-given talent and abilities involves a number of factorsnot the least of which is attention to detail. Well-designed drills provide all football players (including quarterbacks) with a constructive means to develop and enhance their essential skills. As such, in order to be appropriately productive, developmental drills should be creative, focused, and time-efficient.
The 101 drills presented in this book represent the best developmental drills for a quarterback that I have seen and used in my 29 years of coaching at the high school, intercollegiate, and professional levels. Each drill offers a terrific tool for teaching a particular attribute of quarterback play. Every drill is designed to be employed by coaches at all competitive levels.
To the extent that 101 Quarterback Drills helps you maximize the inherent abilities of your players and improve the on-the-field performance of your team, then the time and effort necessary to write this book will have been well worthwhile.
