New Yorks premier fashion industry florist, Michael George is known for his signature graphic, modern arrangements that are as popular in Manhattan hotels and storefronts as they are on the pages of Vogue and on the set of Good Morning America. In Simply Elegant Flowers, George shares his secrets for creating these beautiful arrangements as he guides you, season by season, through a year of flowers. mirknig.com
Georges philosophy of living and creating with flowers is contagious, and soon youll agree that fresh, seasonal arrangements can enhance your life every day, not just on special occasions. His compositions recreate flowers as they are in naturewhich, as he reminds us, is already perfect. Typically overlooked blooms, like carnations, take on a stunning new character when arranged en masse in a perfect dome, while more exotic stems, like dendrobium orchids, are at their most elegant when allowed to stand alone in a simple vase.
Easy to follow, step-by-step instructions and photographs show you how to master Georges techniques for building clean, contemporary floral compositions with his trademark architectural precision. Along the way, George shares helpful insights from a lifetime of working with flowers, and his recommendations of choice blooms for every season give you the confidence you need to begin creating your own unique arrangements, regardless of your budget. Beautiful photography brings the flowers to life on every page as he shows you how simple it is to apply these basic techniques to virtually any bloom. With Simply Elegant Flowers as your guide, youll be arranging flowers like a professionaland displaying them like a celebrity.

I wish you could have seen my home last evening It was pure Michael George or - photo 11

I wish you could have seen my home last evening. It was pure Michael George, or at least as close as I could come to his style and beauty without having Michael there himself. I was having a dinner partyan autumnal supper of root vegetable soup, choucroute garni and lemon curd tartand I wanted my flowers to reflect the season, the colorful fall foliage, and the simple but restrained elegance of the rustic menu. So I arranged dozens of orange tulips exactly as I had been taught by Michael himself, with neatly stripped stems, perfectly aligned, carefully secured with a transparent rubber band (really a ponytail rubber band), the bunches gently twisted so stems and blossoms alike were vibrantly positioned in clear class containers. I put four identical vases on the dining table, one on the living room desk surrounded by amber glass turkeys, a giant bowl in the entry hall and others on side tables. When finished with the task, which I admit took a little longer than a blink of an eye, I did think of my mentor Michael and thought, He would certainly approve.

I first noticed Michaels work in the Calvin Klein store in New York City. I was so entranced with the voluptuous, full, elegant, modern arrangements of white roses, calla lilies and ranunculus that I asked for the name of the designer. I started using Michael personally as well as professionally and invited him numerous times to teach his craft on my television show. He also made my daughters beautiful wedding flowers, and has contributed many times to our publications.
