We fell in love with George and Juli the first time we met them, and yes, we said, fell in love, because thats what happens to everyone who meets George and Juli: they fall in love with them. Their blogs have soared to the top in the Paleo community because these two charismatic individuals have won the heart of every one of their followers. Of course, part of their popularity can be attributed to their fabulous recipes, but its also their humor and compassion that make them so darn likable. They are a Paleo cooking dream team, a powerhouse of delicious recipes, laughter, fun, play, and love. You cant help but smile when these two are in the room, and if you have the chance to see them cook together, you will walk away with a stomach sore from laughing.

Weve been fortunate enough to watch George and Juli grow in the Paleo community, from starting their blogs to becoming immensely famous bloggers to, now, writing a cookbook together. The community would have been enthralled by the prospect of a cookbook written by either of them. How lucky are we that two of the brightest minds in Paleo teamed up to write one massive, incredibly beautiful, and well-thought-out cookbook? When they told us they were writing this book, we thought it was an absolutely brilliant idea, and we knew it would be a hit. From our first glance at the recipes, it was clear that assumption was completely correct. The inventive and unique recipes are accompanied by beautiful, drool-worthy photos. We even had a chance to taste some of the recipes from this book firsthand, cooked by George and Juli themselves! We can say without reservation that the recipes will knock your socks off, so make sure you eat these dishes barefoot.

The Paleo Kitchen offers the perfect recipes to help anyone start their own Paleo journey. Even better, they prove that Paleo cooking can be delicious and fun! The book contains all the tools needed to get started on the Paleo diet, without boring the Paleo veterans. And beyond all the helpful information and delectable recipes, the look and feel of this book will delight your senses. They say we eat with our eyes first. Put into terms that most Paleo advocates will appreciate, digestion truly starts with salivation. If these photos cause you to salivate, which they definitely will, then it could be hypothesized that cooking from this book will also promote good digestion!

George and Juli have outdone themselves with The Paleo Kitchen. This book has it all: great recipes, practical guides, and tons of useful information, all presented in the fun and approachable style that their regular blog readers know to expect. Whether youre just starting out or youre seeking new Paleo recipes, you will find what youre looking for in The Paleo Kitchen.

JULI BAUER

Ive always loved food. But not just any kind of food. Mostly packaged cookies, lasagna from the freezer section, frosting (lots of frosting), and packaged cookies dipped in frosting. Of course. I mean, why wouldnt you dip sugar into sugar? Real food that came from the ground and the earth around us wasnt in my vocabulary. All I knew was what came from a factory. I hated all vegetables, I didnt really like meat, and I had absolutely no understanding of the importance of food. I knew that packaged food made me happy, and I knew that I was addicted to it. When I think back to my eating habits, I honestly dont think I knew what hunger felt like. I would eat out of boredom, eat because I was depressed, eat because I was happy. I was just constantly eating. I was, hands down, addicted to food. And, even more so, to sugar.

But over time, packaged foods and their overwhelming amounts of sugar began to work against me. I was haunted by digestive issues and intense stomach pains that landed me in the emergency room. But there was no real diagnosis for these issues, and not once did my doctor ask me about what I was eating. Even with my constant weight fluctuations, the only thing my doctor ever asked was if I was taking vitaminsnot if I was getting vitamins from my food. So I never even wondered if the food I was eating was good for me.

It wasnt until my senior year of college in 2010 that I began to question what I ate. I had a boyfriend at the time who ate an incredibly strict diet and looked the part. He introduced me to CrossFit, and that was when my life completely changed. I had always enjoyed working out, mostly because it made me feel more confident, but I was plagued with body issues and body dysmorphia. Even though I loved working out, it was always for the wrong reason: to be as thin as possible. I never thought about being as fit as possible. After trying one CrossFit workout with my boyfriend, which included burpees, I gave up immediately. It was unlike any workout I had ever tried. So I took on modified CrossFit workouts on my own. I found workouts all over the Internet and adjusted them to what I could do. I did push-ups on my knees, assisted machine pull-ups, and squats with just the barbell. The more I did CrossFit, the more I fell in love with it because of the results I was seeing. Not only did I look different, but I was able to improve on a daily basis. Before I knew it, I was doing push-ups on my toes and unassisted pull-ups, and I could squat more than I ever thought possible. All I wanted to do was improve: improve in the gym, improve my life, and improve my diet. CrossFit showed me that I was a strong woman who did not have to be plagued by body issues and self-hatred. It proved to me that anything was possible.

The more I did CrossFit the more I was hooked And once I joined a CrossFit - photo 7
