Developing a strong speakers bureau can be one of the most important components of a public relations program for my clients. As a member of the review committee for the national conference of my professional association, Ive seen the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to speaker proposals. The best are always the ones that combine creativity with meaningful content and clearly show that the speaker will impart important knowledge to our audience. Aurora and David have written some of the best proposals we see every year. You will learn a great deal from their experience.

"When I launched my career as a certified health coach, I wanted public speaking to be a key part of growing my business. Aurora helped me create a speaker proposal that truly captured my passion for health education, and I'm pleased to say I've used it to secure a paid speaking opportunity with a public library system. Foreword
Its not whether you win or lose. Trying is all that really matters. Oh, who are we kidding? Dont we all love to win?
Honestly, we live in a world that values and rewards those who succeed. Thats why being selected to speak at a conference matters. Getting picked means youre a winner. And thats not a bad thing, really.
Ive been to my fair share of conferences and Ive had the privilege of speaking at a number of them. And one thing Ive learned is that we all have expertise worth sharing. You and the subject matter experts and key executives in your business have something important to say. These ideas would benefit your industry, raise your organizations profile, attract new clients, and help retain existing ones.
Getting picked as a speaker would grant a mantle of expertise that could help launch a startup or further amplify the brand of an enterprise that is already successful and well established.
And once a speaker gets picked for a single engagement, getting picked to speak at future events becomes just a little bit easier.
The thing is how to get picked? Unfortunately, cutting in line wont work for this.
This book is all about getting picked. Aurora Gregory and David Pitlik, longtime friends and professional colleagues, have leveraged their extensive experience in public relations, marketing communications, and storytelling to develop proposals that have secured speaking slots for their clients at local, regional, national, and international conferences and packaged it up for us to put into practice.
When I was the Chief Marketing Officer of J. P. Morgans Treasury Services business, I thought of Aurora and David as my secret agents in helping us get placements at the conferences where we thought the firm could add the greatest value for our clients, with the topics that our clients told us were important to them. The field was a crowded one, and competition for key slots was fierce. Yet, by working with Aurora and David, we managed to secure coveted slots for our subject matter experts time and time again. In my opinion, their expertise was a game-changer for us.
