About the Author

Introduction

I have to tellyou, before we dive in deep, that you arent receiving your typicaldecorating advice. This free course is about TURNING PRO. Straightup. So we are going to work together to end thinking like anAmateur and start thinking like a Pro.

Im going tobe all-up-in-ya-face about what TURNING PRO means as a decoratorand Im going to be blunt and a little bit bossy about exactly howto do it so your home doesnt become a dull Hot Mess.

Are youready?

Im going toshare with you EXACTLY how to use my Pro method. I follow thismethod step-by-step to decorate my clients rooms every day and itreally works.

In this coursewere going to talk about PREPARATION and PLANNING. A lot. This isthe key to success.

Myno. 1 Rule to Become a Decorating Pro:

You need toplan your decorating project from start to finish before you evenset foot in a physical shop.

I cannotstress this enough.

You CANNOTdecorate successfully without serious preparation.

Five reasonswhy decorating your home on the fly does not work:

You dontunderstand what your style is so your design suffers an identitycrisis.

You dont havean overall vision so your purchases arent targeted.

You haventevaluated your floor plan so you buy furniture to simply fill aspace.

You use whatyou already own to guide your next purchases without considering ifyou really love these items and they are still suitable.

You arentshopping purposefully so colours and textures dont work welltogether.

All thesechoices compound your inability to Turn Pro.

Let me ask youone thing:

Do you love todecorate because you really just love to shop?

I promised Idbe blunt here: If you cant stand the thought of having to planyour shopping experience then this is probably not the course foryou.

But if youwant to change your habit of whipping your wallet out on a whim andcommit to decorating properly once and for all, then Im so withyou.

Im going toshow you exactly how to do that in this email course. No muckingaround with pretty pictures, just cold hard advice you can useNOW.

So, are youready?

TheFive Elements of a Well Designed Room

What makes awell designed room really WORK?

Of all thehomes featured in magazines youll notice that the exceptional onesare either owned by an interior designer or the owner has engagedan interior designer. The rest tend to miss the mark on one, ormany levels. They lack a certain je ne sais quoi.

If youstudy exceptionally well designed rooms, they may be entirelydifferent but they ALL SHARE THESE FIVE ELEMENTS:

Distinct style

Cohesion

Considered useof space

Layers ofcolour and pattern

Unpredictable

Lets break itdown. Ill explain how each of these areas directly contributes tohow great your home can become.

But first - let me share this withyou.

Ive neverbeen to a school to study interior design. Dont get me wrong Ireally, really wanted to but the market for interior designers isso tiny where I live. We just DIY the crap out of EVERYTHING!

I am acreative-go-getter and I have done it all!

I've been aphotographer (my major at art school), a writer as well as apicture editor for a weekly tabloid. I've spent several yearsworking in property development on high-end new-builds and severalmore years as a trade mark manager. But through the years I havenever stopped feeding the interior design fire burning insideme!

I have atendency to scrutinize interior design images to death. I critiquethem and I do it deeply. I am harsh in my opinions and I ruthlesslyreject those designs that dont meet my exacting eye.

Even with, what I thought was, a design eye honed like a chisel, I struggledin the early days to pull together great designs. They didnt comeclose to meeting my own tough standards. I doubted I had anyability at all.

But when Idecided to really get serious about my interior design business,I opened my eyes and started considering the EXACT elements thatmake up a well designed room.

When Iidentified these, suddenly my designs jumped a notch above AWESOMEand I was on the road to being a sassy finger snappin DesignBoss.

I canguarantee you that these five areas are what will make your homestand out, and if you can master them in your designs, you will bea Decorating Pro among the best. Lets get to it!

Distinctstyle

Weve got anentire lesson dedicated to this coming up next, but for now let mesay this: Without a style your room has no identity. Like a childwith no name. Its neither here nor there.

You need to goforth and decorate with purpose and your style gives you thatpurpose.

Im not trying to force a label on you, Ipromise. I am going to teach youhow to create a style that is entirely uniquely your own. The styleof your home doesnt have to be neatly categorized into FrenchCountry if you dont want it to!

Cohesion

Cohesion is soimportant to your design that I have dedicated Lesson 7 to it.Without cohesion your design simply WILL NOT WORK. Period.

What iscohesion?

A cohesive room brings together elements that belong together, likeeach segment of an orange placed together to create a perfectwhole. Elements that belong together look a million times bettertogether than they ever will on their own.

When you placeitems together that belong together, the space just feels right.Your room gives you that warm, pleasing feeling when you walk inbecause everything sits well together within the space.

Can you seethe potential of using cohesion to really ramp up the awesomenessof your room!

How do youknow if your room has cohesion?

You haveachieved cohesion when the eye is able to naturally move around theroom without impediment. Take notice of how your eye moves nexttime you see an image of a room that you love. Your eye will movefluidly, looking at all the elements, capturing all the littledetails.

If the size ofan item in your room is out of proportion or the colour doesntwork with your scheme, it is going to bug the hell out of youbecause your eye is going to sit on it and that item is going toyell at you I dont belong, get me outta here!

Sit tightbecause we are going to dive deep into this topic a bit later andyou will learn how to create cohesion like a PRO.

Considered Useof Space

The glaringlyobvious problem with a room designed by an amateur is when the roomis too empty to convey any warmth and personality. Much less often, but also a classic rookie mistake, is when the room is too full andchaotic to allow for relaxation.
