Tips for Various Blueberry Serving
T here are various tips on serving blueberry for our everyday meal and beverage. We all know that blueberry is good for health and support us in maintaining it. But there are things we should know about this fruit, including how to choose and keep blueberry. It is always great to have fruits at their best, including blueberry. It is seasonal fruit, and it tastes better when you buy them in time. Choose tender, plum and bright color blueberries when you buy them in supermarket or any market. If it is possible, you can choose the ones that are not from stained or damp containers, because it can be the sign of overripe blueberries. Store them in refrigerator but loosely covered.
Make sure you put them in single layer. Placing blueberries by heaping them is not a good idea. Some blueberries may be crushed. You can keep blueberries in refrigerator for about three days. This also goes for raspberries and boysenberries. While for strawberry and for some blueberries, you can keep them up to 5 days.
One of good ways of serving blueberry is by making jam out of it. Prepare blueberries about 4 to 5 cups; half cup sugar; 1 tsp lemon juice (the fresh one) and tsp kosher salt. Put all ingredients into medium size saucepan. Mash them with wooden spoon or potato masher until the blueberries release their juices. Next, cook the juice for about 18 to 25 minutes and stir occasionally in medium to high heat. When it is done, put it into container and then place it in refrigerator. You can keep it there for one month. But if you freeze it, you can keep it up to one year.
You probably can find better and much easier ways of making blueberry jam. Meanwhile, read along to enrich your recipes. Almost similar with the previous recipe, prepare blueberries (10 cups). You can choose the fresh ones or frozen. Next, prepare lemon juice (1/4 cup), water (1/4 cup), sugar and pectin.
Make sure you clean all the appliances needed as well as the blueberries. This also includes removing leaves, mushy berries and stems. Crush all the berries with wooden held masher or other convenient tool. For the sweetener, you should adjust it with your needs and condition. If you have diabetes, consult it with your doctor and dietitian how much sugar you should mix with the blueberries juice. And then, if you decide to use pectin, mix it with cup sugar and mix it thoroughly. Next, mix it with blueberry juice until fully boiled. You may taste it for deciding the thickness of jells. If you think it is enough, put it in jars with the ring and the lid on. Boil the jars in about 2 inches of water for about 5 minutes. Cool the jars and store them. Although they can last for about 12 months, it is better if you have them in the first six months. Does it sound easy?
