Grip of pencil:

It is more like holding the hook like you would hold a pencil.

Grip of knife:

It is like holding the crochet hook in an overhand, something like you would hold a knife.

There is never a given set of rules for the grip. There can be any style of holding the hook, there have been observations that sometimes switching the hook between the two hands prevents hand fatigue.

YARN

Crochet thread or the yarn is specially designed thread which is most usually made from cotton for creating or designing new decorative and artful crochet items .There are a number of crochet items such as doilies and a different type of filet crochet. Crochet thread gives us a final output of fine fabric gauge that as per our choice can be made more stiff with starch.

First as a crochet designer we should know the basic difference between the crochet thread and the sewing thread. It is only then a good crochet crafter can master the art after identifying the good thread from all other threads. Crochet thread is most commonly produced from cotton and can be characterized by some features such as denser pile, less thick than ordinary yarn. Whereas most crochet threads are bigger in diameter than the ordinary sewing thread. Crochet thread is normally very durable and it can withstand good amount of stresses from wear and tear as they have endured the sharp hooks.
