Crochet is an extensive form of art which includes the process of creating a - photo 1

Crochet is an extensive form of art which includes the process of creating a beautiful fabric from given yarn , sometimes called as thread, or many yarn material strands using a number of crochet hooks. The word is basically derived from the French word called "crochet", which gives us the meaning of hook . The art of Crocheting, is also like knitting, which has common techniques such as pulling loops or threads of yarn material through other side of the loops, but they also have additionally incorporated new things like wrapping the yarn around the hook one or more number of times .

Hooks can be easily available in the market and due to the advancements in the technology they are made of materials such as metals( aluminum),the ones made up of wood, or even plastics and are nowadays commercially being manufactured in many industries by artisans and veterans in art .The only difference the Crochet is apart from knitting is that only one stitch is made usable at one time .There are some exceptions in that case for far advanced crochets such as Tunisian crochet and broomstick lace. The new stitches made in the crochet pattern are usually with the same diameter of yarn and is comparably taller than the knitting ones, here a single crochet hook is used instead of two knitting needles as opposed to in the case of the knitting. Apart from that, crochet has its unique system of symbols and representation to define each stitch types.

Materials needed (Prerequisite)

Basic materials that required for preparing a good crochet are a good material - photo 2

Basic materials that required for preparing a good crochet are a good material hook and some type of material that has to be crocheted for wearable or for decoration etc. The most common yarn material or any colorful thread is the materials which will be modified to a new fabric. Additional tools are used for a convenient stitching and they are used for keeping all stitches counted and intact, measuring over the crocheted fabric, or making any such related accessories. Examples of such supporting things include cardboard cutouts, which can be used to make complicated tassels, intricately done fringes, and many other beautiful accessories.

There are individual aid for poms which may include a pom-pom circle which gives us the good grip for those tough structures, a common tape measure and also the thickness measure can be both used for measuring completed crocheted work and also in counting the number of stitches which in turn acts a row counter; and occasionally plastic rings are good examples for aids, which are used in very tough projects. In the very recent years, yarn selections are one of the crucial ones and people have moved their selections beyond synthetic materials, plant materials and even animal skins are made to fibers .These fibers include many plant materials such as hemp threads etc.

HOOK AND YARN

Selection of the type of hook and the yarn also plays an important role in the - photo 3

Selection of the type of hook and the yarn also plays an important role in the crochet. Depending on the complexity of the crochet the level of fabric and the hook style will vary. We all have an overlook about all the materials which are being used for the crochet to be done without any glitches.

The crochet hook is very common and it comes in many sizes and varied materials as we discussed above. They include very tensile materials such as bamboo, plastic, bone, aluminum, and finally the sturdy steel finds its way. The sizing of the hook is mainly identified by twice the radius of the hook's shaft. These things a crafter should be aiming at before starting to knit the stitches of a certain size, which indirectly depends on the hook size, is taken in order to reach a particular size and style of a specified pattern.

A crochet hook which has a trivial name called crochet needle is a tool with crocheting hook at one end which is used to draw colored thread through the performed loops. If the stitches go in this way one crochet hook just enough to make any number of crochet stitches. The crochet hook's earliest usage has been spotted to in the late 18th century or early 19th century.

Typical materials that are used for crochet hooks are wood, aluminium and finally plastic. But there are examples noted in the history such as porcupine quill, bone, steel, tusk of the elephants, and allegedly the fossilized mammoth ivory. Crochet hooks can be designed to suit everyones style and this is why there are many decorative handles been specifically designed for certain people. These handles are given weird shapes but they are exclusively designed and shaped to fit the hand for proper grip and use. Some hooks are even modern and have different handles and the different hook materials which are made up of wooden or plastic handles and the hook of metal and inserted into those plastic handles. Crochet hooks are not limited to the left handed or right handed people. The beauty of design is that any person can use it according to their ease. Everyone crochets (knits) has a unique style and they do it differently so the hook designs and their styles are up to personal choice.

There common ways of holding a crochet hook are:

Grip of pencil:

It is more like holding the hook like you would hold a pencil.

Grip of knife:

It is like holding the crochet hook in an overhand, something like you would hold a knife.

There is never a given set of rules for the grip. There can be any style of holding the hook, there have been observations that sometimes switching the hook between the two hands prevents hand fatigue.

YARN

Crochet thread or the yarn is specially designed thread which is most usually made from cotton for creating or designing new decorative and artful crochet items .There are a number of crochet items such as doilies and a different type of filet crochet. Crochet thread gives us a final output of fine fabric gauge that as per our choice can be made more stiff with starch.

First as a crochet designer we should know the basic difference between the crochet thread and the sewing thread. It is only then a good crochet crafter can master the art after identifying the good thread from all other threads. Crochet thread is most commonly produced from cotton and can be characterized by some features such as denser pile, less thick than ordinary yarn. Whereas most crochet threads are bigger in diameter than the ordinary sewing thread. Crochet thread is normally very durable and it can withstand good amount of stresses from wear and tear as they have endured the sharp hooks.

The usual procedure of Crochet manufacturing consider thread and yarn very differently: manufacturers can assign different sizing scales for their thread and the yarn. It all basically depends on the manufacturers idea. Thread is generally packed on spools and they are considered quite differently in the sales, which they sell in a separate section from ordinary yarns or threads. Crochet hooks for use is also sized according to a different scale from yarn hooks. The idea of division between yarn and thread is that crochet thread when it is at its maximum thickness as similar to fine cotton yarn.
