By Michael Jordan
Bob Love personifies the best qualities of an NBA player, both on and off the court. During his basketball career, he slashed his way through defensive players who marveled at his ability to score like few before or since. Often "Butterbeans," as he was known, led the Chicago Bulls in scoring.
I admired Bob's play because he was much more than a high scorer who dazzled his fans with sleight of hand moves that would leave him open for that pure jumper of his. He was also an outstanding defensive player.
When his basketball career ended, Bob Love found new challenges. Out of work and unable to overcome his childhood tendency to stutter, he faced an uncertain future. Fortunately, a speech therapist helped him overcome his speech difficulty. He joined the Chicago Bulls as Director of Community Relations. Speeches outlining his inspirational story have helped thousands of schoolchildren realize that nothing in life is impossible.
When the Chicago Bulls retired Bob Love's jersey, I joined cheering fans in applauding his lifetime of achievement in the game of basketball. I'm honored as a friend to write the foreword for his book, and I am certain that you are going to enjoy reading about one of the true legends of basketball.
