Guide
A story and song like Dont Stop Believin by Jonathan Cain is a glimpse into the life and motivation, both spiritually and professionally, of a great songwriter, musician, and human being. A music memoir is at its best when it goes beyond the business struggles, difficult relationships, complex collaborations, and often challenging band dynamics that are all part of a successful career in the music business. The title says it all.
JOHN OATES, singer, songwriter, and record producer
Jonathan Cains amazing rock star climb, as you might expect, is also riddled with periods of pain, confusion, and challenge. However, youll learn that none of it has been without the relentless reach, grace, and love of God in his everyday life. His story will encourage you to hold on and to never stop believing.
DR. TIM CLINTON, president of the American Association of Christian Counselors
Jonathan Cain is a humble guy who leads us into a journey of hope through every page. We all can walk away encouraged that its never too late to start over and that there is nothing too broken that cant be restored. What a powerful statement of truth that comes alive throughout Dont Stop Believin! Definitely a must-read.
DARRYL STRAWBERRY, former Major League Baseball great, author, speaker, minister, and founder of Strawberry Ministries
The words dont stop believin are not hollow and meaningless words to Jon Cain. Everything important in life requires belief, and this book will inspire you to have that belief in God, in yourself, and in all that you do.
TOM LEHMAN, 2006 Ryder Cup captain
Jonathan Cain has entertained millions of people around the world playing keyboard and writing songs for Journey. Dont Stop Believin is the remarkable story of how he found faith in Jesus.
JENTEZEN FRANKLIN, senior pastor of Free Chapel Worship Center and New York Times bestselling author
Coming of age in the late 1970s and early 1980s gave me plenty of opportunities to enjoy rock and roll love anthems written by bands like Chicago, Boston, or, a favorite of mine, Elton John. But when Journey launched their single Dont Stop Believin in the summer of 1981, nobody knew at the time that music history was being made. It has gone on to become one of the most bought, played, and sung love songs of all timeeven now, youre probably humming the opening piano riff. And the man who wrote the song, Jonathan Cain, has now written a book full of the kinds of stories a musicians memoir should have, but its so much more than that. It is the story of early childhood tragedy, loss of faith, career struggles, and then ultimately a tale of redemption, a coming back around to faith in God. Cains fascinating memoir reads like a novel and moves you like a well-crafted song.
JERRY FALWELL JR., president of Liberty University
Jonathan Cain is a genuine American icon whose words and rhythms have shaped our culture as significantly as any single person in history. Hes a musical genius, a genuine poet, and a profoundly good human being whose art has been shaped by his life experiences. Now youll know everything you ever wanted to know about someone youve always known. You wont be able to put this one down.
JOHNNIE MOORE, founder of The Kairos
Company and recipient of the Simon
Wiesenthal Centers 2017 medal of valor
Arena rock keeps coming back, and few do it better than Journey. Fans will flock to Jonathan Cains book for tales of legends like Steve Perry, a thousand near breakups, and confessions that record execs make when theyre high. The songwriter candidly reveals what inspired his iconic hitsa winding pursuit of faith and a fathers unfailing belief in his son. Much like one of his Journey melodies, these themes will stick with us.

To my father, Leonard,
who never stopped believin in me
Go anywhere you can, because a journey is an adventure and adventures are how we learn who we really are.
MICK FLEETWOOD
You know something? Most peoples lives get tied up or caught up in making a living, and therefore they never design their life. And they come to the end of their life and they find out they lived one-tenth of it. Not because they werent intelligent. Not because they didnt care. Simply because they didnt have the energy to follow through.
TONY ROBBINS
This is just a stepping-stone to something greater.

IM NOT SURPRISED TO BE STANDING ON THIS STAGE WITH THESE GUYS, BUT Im grateful. Sometimes hard work can turn into a blessing like tonight. The toughest part is not letting the experience turn into pride. Past and present members of Journey stand front and center at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Im proud to be surrounded by my brothers, my fans, and my family.
We are joining a formidable list of artists. Bands like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, and Fleetwood Mac. Icons such as Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, and Chuck Berry. Theyve put all their own talents and tales into songs for generations. A ceremony like this can easily be forgotten, but the music that has been created will inspire listeners decades from now.
Our bandmates give their speeches, with Neal Schon leading the way, followed by Aynsley Dunbar, Gregg Rolie, Steve Smith, and Ross Valory. My turn to say thanks comes second-to-last, with Steve Perry putting the final exclamation on our triumph. Its the first time hes been onstage with us since 1991.
