10.00am
Kitay-gorod
Spend the morning wending your way along the narrow lanes of medieval Moscow, where jewel-box churches and ancient mansions are tucked between style moderne apartment buildings and contemporary offices. Circle the underground city
Leave Red Square through the Resurrection Gates to Revolution Square. Zip down the escalator at the Ploshchad Revolutsii metro station, which has some of the best and kitschest sculptures of armed workers and peasants. Take the purple line one stop to Kurskaya, and switch to the circle line, hopping out to observe some of the most beautiful stations in the Moscow underground.

Market treats
End your metro tour at the Tsvetnoy bulvar station. Wander around the upscale farmers market on the fifth floor of the Tsvetnoy shopping centre (Tsvetnoy bulvar 15, str.1), sampling homemade cheeses, honey, sausages, smoked fish and other delicacies. Pick up some treats for a park-bench picnic in the boulevard park across from the market, or stop in one of the cafs on the sixth or seventh floor for a light lunch.
3.30pm
Bath time
Steam city grit and tension away in a relaxing session at the Sandunovsky Baths (Neglinnaya 14, str. 4), a short walk from the Tsvetnoy Market. Alternate steam and cold water dips until your skin becomes soft and invigorated, and then enjoy some refreshing tea (or beer) to prepare for re-entry into city life.
