The author opened my eyes to a chapter into General Grants life that I had little awareness of before reading Victor! As a student of history and as a retired military officer (chaplain) for twenty-two years, I was aware of Grants resilience and prowess as a leader. I was aware of his exploits in the Mexican-American War and his determination to provide for his family before the Civil War.
