Lous on First: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Lous on First" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

This intimate portrait of Lou Costello (1906-1959) offers a rare look at one of the most talented comedians of all time. Starting in the 1930s, Costello attained enormous fame touring the burlesque circuits with straight man Bud Abbott (1895-1974). Their live skits (including Who's on First?), radio programs, and films such as One Night in the Tropics, Buck Privates, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, and In the Navy made comic history.

Behind the scenes, however, Costello faced numerous crises: a bout with rheumatic fever that left him bedridden for months, the drowning death of his young son, and constant haggles with Universal Studios over its reluctance to adequately finance productions of Abbott and Costello films. Lou's on First goes beyond Costello's clownish persona to explore his Pagliacci nature: the private demons behind the happy public face, the heartbreaking moments in an otherwise storybook marriage, the business ventures soured by unscrupulous managers, and the true nature of the breakup of his twenty-one-year partnership with Bud Abbott.

Christine Costello C hris Costello is the youngest daughter of Lou Costello - photo 3

Christine Costello

C hris Costello is the youngest daughter of Lou Costello. Chris has had diverse and eclectic careers, first starting with a recording contract at the age of sixteen with Columbia Records when she and two friends masterminded the ultimate hoax by leading the record giant into thinking they had the first girls group from England!

It was at the height of the British rock invasion of the 6os, and although The Boutiques career was short lived, they did record one song, Did You Get Your Fun (written by Chris) and which now can be found on YouTube.

Following her short-lived recording career, Chris applied and was accepted to United Airlines where she flew as a flight attendant for four years (1968-72). After leaving the airlines, Chris pursued her dream of singing by studying with a leading voice builder, Giuseppe Balestrieri. She performed in night clubs around the county, dabbled in acting with some small television roles, performed voice over work, and was a co-founder of the Audio Repertoire Company of voice over artists. In the early 80s, Chris lived out another dream singing with a big band. She joined The Bill Tole Orchestra (best known for his role as Tommy Dorsey in the film New York, New York), and worked with the orchestra until 1987.

From 1987 to 2008, Chris entered another career as an entertainment publicist, working primarily with makeup effects artists. When the economy sank in 2008, Chris decided now was the time to pursue what she had always loved travel. Ive always had this wanderlust, wanting to see as much as I could in this world, and what better way to fulfill that than by becoming a travel agent. Her passion was cruises and today, Chris is an accredited cruise counselor working with a New Jersey-based agency, Excel Travel, as a home-based agent. This is what I love. This is my passion.
