ENDORSEMENTS
Majed El Shafie is a rare human being. Having survived extreme persecution and torture for his faith in Jesus, he has devoted his life to rescuing others who are also being persecuted for their faith, often putting his own life on the line to do so. What could be more Jesus-like? I admire his courage and find it enticingly contagious!
SID ROTH
Host, Its Supernatural! television program
With his film, Freedom Fighter, and now its subsequent book, Majed El Shafie has done another service to the many families and people around the world who are viciously persecuted because of their religious faith. By continuously drawing attention to these egregious violations of the most basic human rights, Freedom Fighter and other such works encourage greater involvement by Canadians and by governments throughout the free world in doing what we can to help those in need and to relieve their suffering.
Every man, woman, and child on earth has a fundamental right to freedom of conscience and religion. Those of us who are blessed to live in that freedom in countries like Canada must not close our eyes to the plight of our fellow man in countries of persecution. We must not forget their suffering, we must not overlook the crimes against them, and we must continue to pray for them and work for their safety and protection.
I am pleased to commend Freedom Fighter and the work of all who continue to fight for justice for the oppressed.
THE HONOURABLE JASON KENNEY
Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism
Remember that the persecuted Christians are dying every day, but they are still smiling. They are in a deep, dark night, but they still have the candle of hope. The enemy may have a very strong weapon and a very strong army, but we have the Lord Almighty. They can kill the dreamer, but they cannot kill the dream.
They can kill the dreamer, but they cannot kill the dream.
FREEDOM FIGHTER IS A TREATISE of the continuing and escalating abuse of Christians, Jews, and other religious minorities worldwide and highlights my work on behalf of the persecuted Church and other oppressed religious minorities through my organization, One Free World International. Traveling worldwide, I investigate claims of abuse, persecution, and slavery and take every opportunity to speak truth to governments that neglect and violate the human rights of their citizens.
From Egypt to China, Afghanistan to Pakistan, the true stories and indisputable statistics reveal the reality of people being silencedkilled, tortured, maimedbecause of their religious beliefs. Especially poignant is my own imprisonment, death sentence, and eventual escapebut even more heartbreaking and horribly typical is the story of a 2-year-old Pakistani girl who suffered violent sexual abuse because of her familys Christian beliefs. One Free World International worked for three years to rescue little Neha and her familybut there are countless more children and families who need help.
Many choose to dismiss this harsh realityI choose to fight for one free world.
Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, declares that:
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.
Yet persecution of human beings because of their religion is a significant and underestimated problemand Christians are the main targets. It is estimated that every three minutes somewhere in the world a Christian faces serious violations ranging from severe discrimination to outright persecution of their basic right to freedom of religion. Each year about 165,000 people are murdered simply because they are Christians. In total, between 200 million and 300 million Christians worldwide live with the constant threat of persecution because of their faith.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, state-sponsored persecution of religion does not seem the formidable threat it once was. Yet communist countries like China (with about one-fifth of the worlds population), North Korea, Vietnam, and Cuba continue to control and even outlaw religion in favor of atheist ideology. Many Muslim states discriminate, persecute, and outlaw all religions other than Islam.
