PREFACE
An extraordinarily successful two-day symposium on Soviet-American relations was held on February 2021, 1987, at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Its success was measured not only by the large attendance from campus and community, or by the considerable media coverage, but also by the substance of what was said and by the commitment of participants and audience to learn from one another. The high quality of the presentations and discussions, as well as the numerous requests to make the papers available to a wider public, has made this volume possible.
