Writing in Political Science
Praise for the 25th Anniversary Edition of Writing in Political Science
This is the only textbook I know of that covers all the essential elements of undergraduate research and writing. I like the way that Schmidt includes numerous examples of the many different types of products that students in the social sciences might be expected to deliver. Students must develop research and writing skills applicable to a wide range of topics and formats, so it is helpful for them to see illustrations of the both the process and products.

Detailed Contents
Welcome to the 25th anniversary edition of Writing in Political Science! For over forty years, I have been helping students write well by effectively using techniques I devised to help myself succeed as an undergraduate student in political science. Originally, I developed the foundational techniques and perspectives in this book in response to a challenge I took on when I was a student representative on my universitys grievance committee. A student filed a complaint that he turned in the same paper to two classes and in one class he got an A and the other class he got an F. He argued that an A paper should be an A paper for any class. I decided to test that argument. I shopped a paper for which I received an A to faculty from different political science subfields, various other social science fields, the humanities, and the sciences and asked them to grade the paper with comments based on their fields criteria. These accommodating faculties gave me everything from an A to an F. I was shocked. In response, I rewrote the paper so that it met each of these facultys standards and resubmitted the revised paper to each of them. They each gave me an A.
