Preface
The topic of this book is the suffering of this planet and its people. The undergoading theme is on male power, specifically white and Western male power. Of course, male planetary power is changing colors as economies burgeon in the East, where men are once again exercising their traditional and seemingly universal genius for monarchical power, even in countries that are supposedly democratic.
Thrones are a permanent human temptation. You can do a lot on a throne. You can write the script, define reality, determine what and who is sacred; you can have one rule for the "noble" courtiers and one for the commoners, and you can use people as compost for your privileges. Who, at some base level, would not want to be royal!
One modern throne is the economy with its structures of privilege and there we findsurprise!mostly menlike the pharaohs of old, royally and hegemonically perched.
