Frontispiece
Bolivian treasury loan bond (vale) negotiable for purchase of state property and redemption of censos. This vale, dated July 25, 1827, has a face value of 100 pesos and 6 percent annual interest. It was issued at Chuquisaca over the signature of Madero as minister of hacienda just a month before his resignation. The vales were printed up after the June 12 decrees. They all bore the statement that they were receivable per those decrees in the departmental treasuries for their face value in the purchase of state property and redemption of censos. This one was apparently not yet in circulation, since the department, date of entry into circulation, and the name of the holder are blank. The signature at the bottom is that of Gavino Ibaez, a Bolivian-born military officer who served as prefect of Chuquisaca in 1827.
