Foreword
Over the past three decades workers in Sub-Saharan Africa have experienced little improvement in their economic circumstances. Nearly two of every three workers continue to be engaged in agricultural activities and receive little for their efforts. In 1993 output per worker was only marginally greater than it had been in 1965, and without sustained increases in labor productivity it is impossible for wages to rise.
