This collection of original essays is the result of the contributions of many individuals. The thirteen scholars who joined with me in producing this anthology have contributed substantially to an enhanced understanding of contemporary Nevada history. As the following essays demonstrate, the history of the last half-century of Nevada history is one that deserves careful attention. The emergence of the New Nevada during the turbulent years of World War II and its aftermath constitutes a major watershed in the history of Nevada, and the fourteen individuals whose lives are described and interpreted in these pages provide unique perspectives that help us understand and appreciate that major event.
