This book is dedicated to the creativeand toughindividuals who
are responsible for the evolution of the cogeneration industry from a
comparatively simple beginning to the powerful and complex activity
which it now is.
Starting in the early 80s, I worked with cogeneration entrepreneurs
and originators to report their activities in the quarterly journal Strategic
Planning for Energy and the Environment, published under the auspices of
The Association of Energy Engineers. Many of their early articles were
then presented in book format in 1985.
Since then, cogeneration has vastly ramified. It was necessary, in
1986, to expand into a second publication, The Cogeneration and Competitive Power Journal,
also sponsored by AEE, in order to report properly on this
dynamic technology.
Events have proved that the roadblocks thrown up against the bud
ding cogeneration industry, and against those individuals who doggedly
persevered in developing it, were not only wrong, but futile.
The strengths and successes of cogeneration today can be traced
directly to their pioneering efforts. In respectful appreciation, this book is
dedicated to them.
