A remarkable book to guide the future of India! The concerns are about job creation, skill development, educational reform, and last but not the least, impact of technology. Based on rich experiences, these articles explore new ways of approaching and addressing the conventional problems. The context has changed, so has the text. It offers thoughtful answers to many issues and challenges that confront us in our quest for growth.
C. Rangarajan, Former Chairman Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, and Former Governor Reserve Bank of India

We are living in truly interesting times. The rate of change, both technologically and sociologically, has never been as high as it is today. Indias youth bulge makes it one of the youngest nations in the world. A youthful demographic profile is a necessary but not sufficient condition for economic growth. It needs to be harnessed well. Some miscalculations and wrong moves could very easily transform a demographic dividend to a recipe for mass discontent. The authors have addressed the different pieces of this problem in a simple and uncomplicated way. I would strongly recommend everyone to read this book.
K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), Minister for Information Technology, Municipal Administration and Urban Development (Government of Telangana)

The authors shed their ample academic baggage to get down to the trenches of Bharat and address the impending demographic disaster. More than unemployment, it is large-scale underemployment that threatens to shatter the much-touted dividend of millions entering the employment market. The problem may well be the jaded teaching methods that result in most of the 1012 million youth entering the workforce every year needing serious skill intervention. The need of the hour is to match skill creation with job creation. Each of their suggestions is vital to halt the fast-eroding prospects of our youth.
Brian Carvalho, Editor Forbes India

India will fulfill its tryst with destiny when all Indians, whether living in Bharat or in India, and whatever their histories their religions or castes, and wherever they live in rural or urban areas, can sustainably earn adequate incomes through dignified work and enterprise. India has a long way to go, and global disruptions due to rapidly changing technologies are creating hazards on the way. New ways will have to be found, and dominant narratives will have to be challenged. Since the future is becoming harder to predict, and good data to make analyses is not available, economists are struggling to recommend solutions. This book is very timely. It brings insights from people working on the ground, who are finding new solutions to cut the Gordian knot. They challenge dominant narratives (about the roles of labour regulation, higher education, and large investments, for example) as ingredients in the ecosystem to enable India (and Bharat) to generate more inclusive growth. This book by real people in real places doing real things is a good provocation for fresh thinking and new strategies.
