About the Author

CHRISTIAN MATIJAS-MECCA is a professor of dance and music at the University of Michigan and chair of the Department of Dance, where he teaches courses on accompanying movement, research methodologies, the integration of music and movement, and the history of music in dance. He is a leading practitioner in dance and music studies and has collaborated with artists from many of the worlds leading dance companies. Christian has been an invited speaker at conferences in North America, Europe, and Asia, and under the name Christian Matijas, he has produced albums of original compositions (Standing Alone, Suites for Dance, and Na Razie, bez Ciebie) and music for dance technique classes (Etoile Solo Ballet Variations and Music for Modern Dance). He is the author of The Words and Music of Brian Wilson (Praeger) and a native of Los Angeles, where he earned degrees in harpsichord and early music from the University of Southern California.
