INTRODUCTION
Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NYSE: PANW) is an international cybersecurity organization located in Santa Clara, California. Its essential products include an integrated firewall framework and cloud-based offerings that expand sure firewalls to cover other protection issues. About 70,000 businesses in 150 countries utilize the companys facilities, including 85 of the Fortune 100. The Unit 42 vulnerability research team is based there, and the Ignite cybersecurity conference is held there.
Palo Alto Networks was ranked 8th in the Forbes Digital 100 in 2018. Nikesh Arora, a longtime Google and SoftBank chief, entered the firm as Chairman and CEO in June 2018.
Palo Alto Networks was created in 2005 by Israeli-American Nir Zuk, a former Check Point and NetScreen Technologies engineer who was responsible for the first stateful inspection firewall and intrusion prevention device. When questioned why he established Palo Alto Networks, Zuk cited his desire to solve an issue that companies had with traditional network protection solutions: the inability to securely allow workers to use modern technologies, which necessitated creating a firewall to detect and monitor applications finely.
The company s first device, an integrated corporate firewall, was released in 2007, and it was dubbed the worlds first next-generation firewall. Gartner published a report in 2009 that described the next-generation firewall. Unlike conventional firewalls of the time, which focused on basic rules like port numbers and protocol to obstruct traffic, the authors claimed that next-generation firewalls could run on and audit all network stack layers and be sophisticated enough to block threats regardless of port numbers or protocols used. The publication described this next-generation firewall as having (in addition to the full capabilities of both traditional firewalls and intrusion prevention systems): Support for in-line deployment without disrupting network operations, application awareness and full-stack visibility allowing for fine-grained detection and control of applications, extra-firewall intelligence, and an application-awareness and full-stack visibility allowing for fine-grained detection and management of applications, extra-firewall intelligence, and an application-awareness and full-stack visibility allowing for fine-g
Palo Alto Networks has been identified as a pioneer in Gartners enterprise firewall Magic Quadrant since 2011. For the eighth year in a row, they were named a pioneer in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Network Firewalls in 2019. On July 20, 2012, the firm went public on the New York Stock Exchange, earning $260 million in the fourth-largest software IPO of the year.
Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, McAfee, and Symantec created the Cyber Threat Alliance in 2014, a non-profit association to strengthen cybersecurity for the public good by fostering cooperation between cybersecurity organizations and exchanging cyber threat information among members.
Cisco, Check Point, Juniper Networks, and Sophos were among the organizations 20 participants by 2018.
Over time, the business has evolved to provide a wide variety of corporate cybersecurity offerings outside its initial next-generation firewall product, such as Traps endpoint defense and Wildfire malware mitigation, in addition to its original next-generation firewall offering. Palo Alto Networks introduced Logging Technology in 2017, a cloud-based service that allows users to collect their data for machine learning and analytics.
As part of the Worldwide Cyber Range Program, the organization started opening dedicated cybersecurity training centers worldwide in 2018.
Application Platform, an accessible cloud-delivered environment where developers may publish protection resources as SaaS apps that can be immediately delivered to the companys customer network, was unveiled in May 2018.
Palo Alto Networks recruited many high-profile software leaders in 2018. Nikesh Arora, the longtime Google Chief Business Officer, and SoftBank President, entered the firm as chairman and CEO in June 2018. [nine] Mark McLaughlin, his predecessor, was promoted to vice chairman of the board of directors. Arora got a $128 million compensation packet, rendering him one of the United States highest-paid executives. Liane Hornsey, previously the Chief People Officer at Uber, joined Palo Alto Networks as Chief People Officer in September 2018. Amit Singh, the longtime President of Google Cloud, took charge as President of Palo Alto Networks in October 2018.
The K2-Series, a 5G-ready next-generation firewall designed for service providers with 5G and IoT specifications in mind, was unveiled in 2019. Cortex, an AI-based continuous protection network, was unveiled in February 2019. According to CEO Nikesh Arora, Cortex is Application Framework 2.0.
Enterprise Products
Palo Alto Networks offers a cybersecurity infrastructure for companies that cover network security, server security, endpoint defense, and a range of cloud-delivered security services. The Palo Alto Networks website describes the following components of the protection platform:
  1. PAN-OS-based next-generation firewalls are available in a variety of configurations, including:
o As a physical appliance, the PA range provides tiny form-factor firewalls for small businesses and offices, such as the PA-220, to the PA-7000 series designed for major companies and service providers.
o The firewall may be run as a virtual machine to protect virtualized data centers and private clouds as a virtualized appliance via the VM sequence. Its all compliant with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, among other public cloud platforms.
o Palo Alto Networks GlobalProtect Cloud Service is a simplified cloud service offered by Palo Alto Networks.
  1. Panorama is a network protection control center that lets consumers handle a wide range of firewalls from a single console.
Advanced endpoint defense is caught. Traps do not depend on signatures to identify ransomware, unlike standard anti-virus. Instead, it concentrates on evaluating software actions to find zero-day vulnerabilities. Wildfire is used to share and collect threat information.
Wildfire is a cloud-based threat-intelligence service that tracks and avoids unknown threats using dynamic analysis, static analysis, machine learning, and bare-metal analysis.
Cloud Storage and Analysis Products
Palo Alto Networks SaaS services were reorganized in 2019 under the Cortex name.
Cortex Data Lake - For Palo Alto Networks applications in on-premise networks, directly from endpoints, or cloud-based products like Prisma Connectivity, Cortex Data Lake offers a cloud-delivered log aggregation feature. The data lake knowledge is then fed into the Hub applications, which provide interpretation, response, and other services.
Hub - Customers may connect to protection software built by third-party developers or Palo Alto Networks via Hub, an accessible cloud-delivered ecosystem. Some Palo Alto Networks apps, such as XDR (analytics) and AutoFocus (threat intelligence), are labeled Cortex on Hub.
Cortex XDR - Palo Alto Networks Cortex XDR is the companys central data processing platform, using modern vulnerability identification and mitigation capability on the consolidated data gathered in the Cortex Data Pool.
AutoFocus - As an external source of sensitive security knowledge, this program offers vulnerability analysis to improve center applications predictive capability.
