Chang-Hee Christine Bae is Associate Professor in the Department of Urban Design and Planning at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. She was born in Incheon, South Korea. Her research interests include land use and growth management, transportation and environmental planning, globalization and urban development, Pacific Rim Cities, and the role of Information Technology in planning education. She has published in major refereed journals, such as the Journal of the American Planning Association, Environment and Planning A and B, Transport Policy and International Regional Science Review. She is co-editor of Urban Sprawl in Western Europe and North America (Ashgate, forthcoming).
Sang-Chuel Choe is Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Seoul National University. His research interests include urban and regional development studies, land use planning and urban planning history. His recent publications include Seoul: The Making of a Metropolis (John Wiley, 1997) and Culture and the City in East Asia (Oxford University Press, 1997).
Gert de Roo is Professor in Environmental Planning and Planning Theory at the Department of Physical Planning and Environment, Faculty of Spatial Sciences at the University of Groningen in Groningen, The Netherlands. Since 1990, De Roos interest and research focus has been on complex urban conflicts, as a result of the interference between environmental spillovers and spatial developments. He has published several Dutch and international articles and books on this subject. De Roo is Secretary General of the Association of European Schools of Planning (Aesop), co-chair of the International Urban Planning and Environment Association (UPE), and chair of the Comprehensive Planning Group, of the Dutch Urban Design and of the Physical Planning Association. He is also vice chair of the Dutch State Commission on City and Environment.
Peter Gordon is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Southern Californias School of Policy, Planning and Development. He is also Director of USCs Master of Real Estate Development program. Gordons research interests are in applied urban economics. He has recently written on the problems of the sprawl debate. Gordon is also the co-editor (with David Beito and Alexander Tabarrok) of The Voluntary City (The University of Michigan Press, 2002). Gordon is the co-editor of Planning and Markets, an all-electronic refereed journal (www.pam.usc.edu). Peter Gordon has published in most of the major urban planning, urban transportation and urban economics journals.
Jill Grant recently joined Dalhousie University as Professor of Planning. (Previously, she was Professor of Environmental Planning at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.) Her research interests include the design of residential environments, trends in local planning practice, eco-industrial park planning, and the history of planning. She has published over 25 refereed papers, 30 reports and professional papers, and a book, The Drama of Democracy: Contention and dispute in community planning (University of Toronto Press). She is currently chair of the editorial board of Plan Canada, the official journal of the Canadian Institute of Planners.
Mikiko Ishikawa is Professor of Urban Planning at Keio University in Tokyo. She has written extensively on the history of planning for parks and green space in Japan. Her major work on the theory and practice of urban green space planning, Cities and Green Space: Moving towards the creation of a new urban environment (Toshi to midorichi: Atarashii Toshi Kankyou no Souzou ni Mukete) was published in 2001 by Iwanami Shoten.
Kwang-Joong Kim is a Senior Research Fellow at Seoul Development Institute, a policy research body of Seoul Metropolitan Government, where he has conducted research and practice on the matters of urban renewal, downtown planning, urban design and general planning. Kims current works include the urban form comparative study for selected world cities and the publication of the statistical profile of Seouls past and present. Kim recently edited/co-edited books on Seouls urban history and policy development including Seoul Twentieth Century: Growth and Change of the Last 100 Years
