Acknowledgements
We would like first to give a very sincere thanks to all the people, organizations and, particularly, schools, who have made this book possible. In acknowledging below the many people who have helped, we are more than conscious that some will have been left out, so many apologies if your name does not appear below. We are, of course, very grateful.
The bedrock of this book has been the material supplied in the questionnaires, and in much supplementary material, by school archivists, teachers, and some headmasters. The archivists are an under-recognized part of school life and we would like to thank them very much indeed, particularly those who have responded many times to what must have become tiresome requests for information. Preserving the history of our schools presents many challenges of competing for scarce resources and time, and those challenges will not diminish in the digital age, but we hope that schools will continue to consider the importance of acknowledging and prioritizing their heritage. The list below also includes archivists from overseas schools, and it has been a great pleasure, in the context of this book, to unite public schools in many corners of the world. Most of the following have either full- or part-time roles as school archivists, but the individual questionnaires have also been returned by headmasters, teachers, bursars, alumni relations officers and CCF commanding officers. To all of the following, therefore, we are very grateful:
