Notes on Contributors
Abel Albet is Associate Professor at the Department of Geography of the Universitat Autnoma de Barcelona (Spain). His teaching and research interests are focused on critical geographies (geographical thought; postmodern geographies), on urban studies (urban planning; urban governance; urban representations, discourses and images; public space; social problems of cities and metropolitan areas; Barcelona) and on new cultural geographies (urban cultural landscapes; orientalism and postcolonialism; travel accounts; Morocco). He is member of the steering committee of the International Critical Geography Group and editor of the book series Espacios Crticos (Icaria Editorial).
Irena Balija is an assistant professor at the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia) and a research fellow at the Centre for the Analysis of the Administrative-Political Processes and Institutions. She lectures at the pre-graduate and post-graduate courses on the programme Policy Analyses and Public Administration. Her area of research is urban management, urban governance, local (self-)government and public administration reform. She has published many scientific articles, papers and books in the Slovenian and English languages.
Joo Cabral, Architect (Escola Superior de Belas Artes, Lisbon), Honours Diploma, Urban and Regional Development Planning (Architectural Association, London), PhD (Urban and Regional Studies, University of Sussex). He is professor at the Faculty of Architecture, Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal), and researcher at CIAUD Research Centre for Architecture, Urbanism and Design. He has been involved in research projects on governance and policies in urban regions in Europe and in South and North America, comparing and evaluating spatial planning practices and urban regulation systems.
Ioannis Chorianopoulos is Assistant Professor at the Department of Geography, University of the Aegean (Greece). He has taught at the London School of Economics and the University of the Aegean, and has researched at the Hellenic Observatory (LSE). He is a member of the Royal Geographical Society, the Regional Studies Association and the LSE Urban Research Centre. His research interests and publications record focus on the themes of European integration, urban competitiveness and governance, spatial segregation, social exclusion and, recently, urban sprawl.
Jos Lus Crespo, geographer, holds the Masters Degree in Human, Regional and Urban Geography (University of Lisbon). He is lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal), and researcher at CIAUD Research Centre for Architecture, Urbanism and Design. He is currently earning his PhD in Urban and Regional Planning at the Technical University of Lisbon on urban governance and planning in metropolitan areas.
Joaquin Farins-Das is Regional Geographical Analysis Full Professor, responsible for the Territorial Governance, Spatial Planning and Environment research area at the Inter-University Institute for Local Development, University of Valencia (Spain). His work has been mainly focused on territorial and urban governance, spatial planning, European regional and cohesion policy, European institutions and policies, impact assessment, political regional geography, local and regional development, and international cooperation for development. He has experience in several research projects in Spain, the EU and Latin America, as coordinator, leading partner and/or partner. He is author of several publications on these topics in Spanish, English, French and Italian.
