T he United States is at a crossroads, and it burdens me greatly. As a nation we have turned our back on God and have pursued the things of this world instead.
Im reminded of 2 Kings, chapter 22. King Josiah led a campaign to repair the Jewish temple; and as they were working on the project, the carpenters stumbled upon an interesting old scroll. As they read through it, the men realized that they were holding the nearly-forgotten Scriptures of the True and Living God.
Hilkiah, who was Israels high priest at the time, reported to the king that they had found the Book of the Law in the temple of the Lord. Its a sad irony and commentary that Gods Word was right there in Gods temple all along, yet even the priests had lost track of it.
At the kings command, the newly rediscovered Book of the Covenant was read publicly, and something amazing happened. As the Word of God was proclaimed, people repented and turned back to the Lord, and a great revival came!
We need this in America today! I pray for the Holy Spirit to bring this country to a state of repentance like we read about in 2 Kings.
The Assault on AmericaHow to Defend Our Nation Before Its Too Late shares this theme. The problems that individual people and our country face seem endless. But there is a wonderful solution for all people, regardless of their situation or backgrounda new life through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Jesus alone holds the answer to the problems that plague us. He offers the hope, peace, purpose, love, joy, and redemption that seem so elusive today.
Alex McFarlands explanation of the current spiritual condition of America is timely, and his call for people to put their faith in Jesus is clear and compelling. I encourage you to thoughtfully read The Assault on America, and share it with a friend.
I also encourage you to pray for revival in America and beyond. Even in the midst of increasing darkness, God is moving in remarkable ways in this present age.
May God bless you and use you as a bold witness for Christ!

Prologue
H ave you ever been at a party where the group played a What if? conversational game? At several gatherings over the years, Ive participated in many of these get-to-know-your-neighbor ice breakers. One common question Ive heard is, If your house was on fire and you could run in and only grab one thing, what would it be?
How would you answer that question? Virtually all adults will say something like their pictures or photo albums. Ive heard some say they would grab their Bible, and it always moved my heart on the one or two occasions when people have somberly said that they would grab their marriage certificate.
If a persons house was burning down, why wouldnt they grab the flat screen TV? That probably cost more than a bunch of faded old photos. Why have people run through flames to make sure all of the children are located, to rescue their pet, or even carry out a fishbowl when things like jewelry and electronics are much more valuable? It is because some things in this world are irreplaceable. We will risk our lives for precious things which, if lost, could never be acquired again. And we should. Some things in this world are worth much more than money. In fact, some things are worth dying for.
This book is about rescuing some things that may be rapidly and irretrievably lost.
W alking around the smoldering ruins of Ground Zero less than two days after 9/11 was not something I would exactly call a privilege. But the experiences of those days are times I will never forget. Though sad and somber, it was an honor to be serving as part of a ministry team in the immediate aftermath of the terrorist attacks. We counseled individuals blindsided by grief, prayed with hundreds of New Yorks first responders, and listened to the stories of people from every imaginable background.
As news outlets commented round the clock on the attacks, many of the stories analyzed the physics of how the World Trade Center Towers fell:
The planes crashed into the buildings, instantly spewing thousands of gallons of jet fuel everywhere.
Fire engulfed nearly 10 floors in each building on impact, first in the North Tower, and then in the South.
Two buildings that had taken eight years to construct lay on the ground in rubble just 56 minutes from impact (South Tower) and after 102 minutes (North Tower).
The trifecta of physical destruction began as the hijacked jets breached the Towers concrete and metal exterior, weakening the structure overall. Intense heat from burning jet fuel compromised and eventually melted steel support beams throughout several floors. The incalculable weight of floors above points of impact was, tragically, mass enough to crush everything below.
The awful spectacle of the Towers fall (and the destruction of entire city blocks of buildings and property nearby) is acutely painful to watch even two decades later. The deaths of more than 2,700 people, the loss of feeling safe on American soil, and the omnipresent sway of Islamic terrorism has caused the world to feel since 9/11 changed life to a degree that overstatement is near impossible.
At Risk of Extinction?
Just as multiple contributing factors coalesced into the falling of the Towers, the combination of several detriments is bringing down (what was) the greatest nation on earththe United States of America. The pathological irony in the case of our unraveling nation is that three dynamics key to the preservation of America are being actively suppressed and opposed.
