Social Workers Without Borders is a social work organisation, formed by volunteer social workers across the UK, that uses our professional voices, skills and knowledge to defend and promote fairness and equality for individuals, families and communities impacted by immigration controls. Our vision is for a society where peoples self-determination and welfare is not restricted by immigration policy and control. We believe that all individuals, families and communities should have access to social work support from social workers that understand immigration policy and advocate for peoples rights and freedoms. There are three strands to our work: campaigning, direct work and education. SWWB campaigns to promote and protect the rights of people with insecure immigration status and to challenge immigration policies that cause hardship, discrimination and injustice. Our Direct work group undertakes and writes expert reports to support peoples applications to remain in the UK, or to be reunited with their families. We supervise a network of volunteer social workers to conduct independent social work assessments that are legal-aid funded or free of charge for people who cannot pay for this essential expert evidence. Through our Education group, we share this expert knowledge with the social work sector to support improvements in education and practice.
