PREFACE
ON DECEMBER 28, 2003, then-presidential candidate Howard Dean said of Osama bin Laden in an interview, Ive resisted pronouncing a sentence before guilt is found. He continued, I still have this old-fashioned notion that even with people like Osama, who is very likely to be found guilty, we should do our best not to, in positions of executive power, not to prejudge jury trials.
On May 14, 2005, Howard Dean, now chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), said that just-indicted House Majority Leader Tom DeLay...ought to go back to Houston where he can serve his jail sentence. The indictment of DeLay was questionable, at best, and Delay had not even been given a trial date, let alone convicted. And yet here was Howard Dean, pronouncing the verdict and issuing the sentence.
In other words: According to the chairman of the Democratic Party, terrorists deserve due process, Republicans do not.
This dual attitude is clearly shared by many in Deans party. This is also reflected in their feigned outrage over the existence of the NSA Terrorist Surveillance Program and the Terrorist Finance Tracking Program. Allegedly because of their concern for civil liberties and privacy issues, these vital national security measures had to be given the closest scrutiny possiblebut Democrats will work tirelessly to thwart all such investigation of members of their own party.
This premature guilty verdict of Republicans is coupled with a presumption of the innocence of their own party. That, above anything else, is the reason why this book had to be written. This book is our response to the Democrats one-sided crusade against corruption.
The examples highlighted in this book were in no way secret or hard to find. It didnt take a super sleuth to uncover the patterns of corruption that are ever so present in the Democratic Party. The information was out there just waiting to be found, and weve connected the dots. This book by no means chronicles all of the corruption in the Democratic Party, let alone all corruption in government. But the examples highlighted in this book will leave no one questioning the corruption and hypocrisy of the Democrats, which have become their most prominent qualities.
Many might ask, Why dont you talk about Republicans in this book? This book is not meant to be a smokescreen to hide the ethical lapses of members of the Republican Party, but rather to make the debate about corruption bipartisan. The secret of Democratic corruption has been hidden in plain sight. Democrats are even brazen about their corruption, secure in the knowledge that the mainstream media (MSM) will put up an impenetrable fog of misdirection about it.
Time and again, newspapers and television news trumpet Republican scandals, while hardly noting much more egregious and destructive corruption on the Democratic side of the aisle.
Our purpose in writing this book is to give corruption in the Democratic Party its proper notice. Without honesty, democratic government is impossible, and honesty is only possible when the people remain eternally vigilant.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
FIRST, Id like to thank my co-author Mark Noonan. Weve been blogging together for a few years now, and I couldnt imagine embarking on such a project like writing a book without him. And I am especially grateful to the folks at World Ahead for believing in us and this project.
This book probably never would have happened if not for the success of Blogs for Bush, GOP Bloggers, and No Agenda, and many thanks go to Rachel, Kevin, Russ, Paul, Pat, Jonathan, and Jason, whose contributions played a big role in those successes; and to Adam for being a patient and understanding Web host. And of course, I am grateful for all of our readers and fellow bloggers who have supported us. Many thanks also to Patrick, Chuck, Katie, and Kristen, for all their help and for being great resources and to John Cox for contributing his artistic talent for this book.
There were lots of people who were helpful to me throughout the process of writing this book, and Id especially like to thank Richard Miniter and Jason Clarke for all their advice from back when this book was just an idea in my head. This book also would have been much more difficult to write without the help of many, many cups of Starbucks Coffee.
To many friends (both Republican and Democrat), I am glad for their support.
I am also glad for the love and support of Beth, who was a tremendous help with reviewing and editing this book and whose encouragement kept me going through the entire process.
I would also like to thank my family for all their support and enthusiasm. And of course, many thanks to the Democratic Party for providing us with ample material to write a book about corruption.

I would like to thank my co-author Matt Margolis for first offering me the opportunity to start blogging, which eventually led to this project. I also appreciate his patience and wise counsel as we worked the past year on this book.
I would also like to thank the good people at World Ahead for the opportunity to bring this book before the public; Dani DeLay-Ferro for taking the time to help unknown authors; Dean Esmay for proving to me that a liberal can be wise; the late Steven Malcolm Anderson for doing double duty as iconoclast and patriot in the blogosphere; and all of the readers and commenters at Blogs for Bush, GOP Bloggers, No Agenda, and Battle Born Politics for ensuring that any mistake I made was held up for immediate disparagement.
Additional thanks are due to my in-laws Joe and Dolores for support, Paule and Don for friendship, Kathy for prayers, Christine and Jeremy for advice, Anna for being adorable, Avery for coming late to the show, Peter for keeping the computer functioning and retrieving the first draft after my computer crashed, Amy for literary expertise, Maria for insight, Lorraine for encouraging jokes, Karen and Wanda for allowing time off to write, Joe for being delightfully anti-Republican at every turn, my father for the stacks of books as a child, my late mother for making me understand the whimsical side of life, my brothers and sisters for teaching me tolerance, and my friend Bill for sticking with me since 1971.
