Geography and Climate

Mexico is a land of sprawling deserts, rugged mountains, lush forests, and long coastlines. The North American nation covers 758,449 square miles (1,964,375 sq. km). It is the fourteenth-largest country in the world.

Mexico is bordered by Guatemala and Belize to the south and the United States to the north. The Pacific Ocean traces its western shores. The Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico lie to the east.

The Land

Dramatic forces shape the Mexican landscape. Earthquakes sometimes shake buildings and tear gashes in the ground. Volcanoes erupt, spitting out hot gases, ash, and lava.
