Georgina Boyes is a folklorist who has specialised in traditions of performance, including dance, song and customs. She studied at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, where she was awarded a Graduate Fellowship, and at the University of Sheffield. Her book The Imagined Village: Culture, Ideology and the English Folk Revival won the Katharine Briggs Folklore Award and has just been republished in a new illustrated edition. Step Change: New Views on Traditional Dance, the collection of papers on recent developments in dance theory, which she edited and contributed to, was also nominated for the Briggs Award. The author of over sixty major articles, she has lectured widely in Britain, Europe and North America, and is a longstanding member of the International Ballad Commission, for which she has organised conferences, contributed papers and edited proceedings. Formerly an Honorary Research Associate at the National Centre for English Cultural Edition at the University of Sheffield, she was also the first External Examiner for the BA in Traditional Music at the University of Newcastle.
David Fowler teaches Modern British History and Sociology at The University of Cambridge and is attached to the Faculty of Politics, Psychology, Sociology and International Studies. He is also a Senior Member of Clare Hall. His full-scale biography of Rolf Gardiner, Rolf Gardiner and English Culture, 19201950: the Apostle of Youth, will be published by Manchester University Press in 2011 and is rooted in Gardiners extensive archive held in Cambridge. He is currently completing a major new monograph on student movements in Britain, entitled The Creative Campus: Student Cultures, Dons and the Global 1960s. He has recently published Youth Culture in Modern Britain, c.1920 c.1970 (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008) which was widely reviewed in the media, and an earlier monograph entitled The First Teenagers: the Lifestyle of Young Wage-Earners in Interwar Britain (Routledge, 1995), along with several academic articles on Modern British youth culture and British social history. Dr Fowler has previously taught at the University of Manchester, and at The Queens University of Belfast, where he held a Research Fellowship in Irish Studies and was Lecturer in Economic, Social and Political History.
Richard Griffiths is a former Fellow of Selwyn College, Cambridge (196066) and Brasenose College, Oxford (196674); Professor of French, Cardiff University (197487); Professor of French and Vice-Principal, Kings College London (19902000); and now Professor Emeritus, Kings College London. His publications include An Intelligent Persons Guide to Fascism (Duckworth, 2000), Patriotism Perverted: Captain Ramsay, the Right Club and British Anti-Semitism, 193940 (Constable, 1998) and Fellow Travellers of the Right: British Enthusiasts for Nazi Germany, 193339 (Constable, 1980).
Matthew Jefferies is Professor of German History at the University of Manchester. He is the author of Contesting the German Empire 18711918 (Blackwell, 2008), Imperial Culture in Germany, 18711918 (Palgrave Macmillan, 2003), and Politics and Culture in Wilhelmine Germany: the Case of Industrial Architecture (Berg, 1995). His work on the history of naturism includes For a Genuine and Noble Nakedness? German Naturism in the Third Reich, in German History, vol. 24 (2006). He was educated at the Universities of Sussex and Oxford, and has been a visiting fellow at the University of Hamburg and at the Humboldt University, Berlin.
Richard Moore-Colyer is Emeritus Professor of Agrarian History at the University of Wales. He is the author of five books and more than one hundred articles concerned with the social, agrarian and cultural history of England and Wales between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries. He also has interests in prehistory and the history of the horse in the economy and culture of Britain and, having spent five years in several countries of the Lesser Developed World, is interested in the development of appropriate technology in its various manifestations.
Dan Stone is Professor of Modern History at Royal Holloway, University of London. He is the author of Breeding Superman: Nietzsche, Race and Eugenics in Edwardian and Interwar Britain (Liverpool University Press, 2002), Constructing the Holocaust: A Study in Historiography
