Abby L. Ferber - White Man Falling: Race, Gender, and White Supremacy

APPENDIX PRIMARY SOURCES

PERIODICALS

The following periodicals were reviewed for the years listed. While I examined every issue for every year contained within the University of Oregons Stimely collection, occasionally an issue number was missing. I have no way of knowing whether the collection was simply missing the issue or if the periodical missed an issue date, because publication of various periodicals is occasionally sporadic or inconsistent in terms of dates. Nevertheless, the majority of the issues printed for the years listed were contained within the collection and thus reviewed.

1. Instauration (19761983): Seemingly intellectual, racist and anti-Semitic magazine published by Howard Allen Enterprises, in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Little is known about this corporation. Edited by Wilmot Robertson, pen name of the author of The Dispossessed Majority, Instauration has been advertised as essentially a monthly update of The Dispossessed Majority. Instauration is concerned with putting Northern Europeans back on the evolutionary track and with the consolidation, security and advancement of the Northern European peoples. John Tyndall, leader of Great Britains neo-fascist National Front, has called Instauration a highly articulate and stimulating monthly... enjoying growing popularity among... the National Front (Anti-Defamation League 1988a, 152).

2. The National Alliance Bulletin (19781980) and

3. National Vanguard (19781984): both periodicals are published by the National Alliance, in Mill Point, West Virginia, a neo-Nazi racist group headed by William Pierce and founded in 1970. The National Alliance originated from the Youth for Wallace campaign in 1968, run by Willis A. Carto, but split from Carto in 1970 and became the National Alliance, run by former members of George Lincoln Rockwells American Nazi Party. William Pierce had edited Rockwells National Socialist World, and after Rockwells death in 1967, he became leader of the American Nazi Party, subsequently renamed the National Socialist White Peoples Party, lead by Matt Koehl. In 1984, Pierce established a 346-acre compound in West Virginia called the Cosmotheist Community Church.

4. The New Order (19791983): published by Gerhard Lauck, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Lauck heads the neo-Nazi National Socialist German Workers Party (known overseas as NSDAP-AO). The NSDAP-AOs circulation is so widespread that it allegedly is recognized by the West German government as the primary source of propaganda materials to [their] underground (Klanwatch Intelligence Report 1993, 8). The New Order is widely read and distributed by various white supremacist groups because membership and distribution materials are easy to obtain (Klanwatch Intelligence Report 1993, 9). Still going strong, the NSDAP-AO has benefited from the recent surge in neo-Nazi activity throughout Europe.
